americans killed in iraq

as per my ongoing campaign to get some media and/or blogosphere attention on the imminent milestone of 2000 dead *americans* in iraq (including both soldiers *and* contractors), its time for an update.

I've decided to coin my campaign Operation Milestone Millstone - and set up a new blog to count down the days - OperationMilestoneMillstone.blogspot.com - spead the word if you think its a good idea, or let me know if you have any ideas/improvements.

On August 2, we were expecting to hit the 2000 milestone on or about Sep 15.

By August 5, after the rash of dead ohio marines, the expectation had shifted to Sep 4.
the calculation then was as follows
dead americans so far = 1821+113 = 1934
no of dead americans before the 2000 milestone = 66
approximate # of days till the 2000 milestone (assuming the same rate) = 33
approximate date of the 2000 milestone = september 4

the new calculations are as follows:
dead americans so far = 1838+113 = 1951
no of dead americans before the 2000 milestone = 49
approximate # of days till the 2000 milestone (assuming the same rate) = 25
approximate date of the 2000 milestone = september 04

(again, ftr, i've assumed that american soldiers will continue to die at 2 per day, which was the rate they died between the 1700 and 1800 milestones)

oh - and by the way, Seeing The Forest also noted that Aug 6 marked the milestone of 2000 dead american soldiers combined in Iraq and Afghanistan.

oh, and william rivers pitt at Truthout last week observed: " On Tuesday, some took solemn note of the fact that the total number of "Coalition" fatalities from the invasion and occupation of Iraq had reached 2,000."
