At the end of the Iraq war, it was expected that oil prices would fall close to $US20 a barrel. Instead they are close to $US30.

Pound said the US government had promised to pay $US1m this year, but that WADA was informed today by a junior White House drug office employee that the figure would be only $US800,000.

So the corruption predicted by Franklin bears its terrible fruit. No one wants to do anything about it. It’s not even a campaign issue. Once you have a business community that is so corrupt in a society whose business is business, then what you have is, indeed, despotism.
