Deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein could be offered a deal in which he would give his captors information on if and how he hid weapons of mass destruction and if he smuggled some of them into Syria.
mred - blame syria, blame syria
mred - watching the soldier tell the story about "im saddam. im the president. im here to negotiate" - im sure the soldier hates having to tell that story - cos he seems to know that its a lie.
They also feel that something of a shady deal might have played out in Tikrit - where Saddam was found - which might surface much, much later - with wily Saddam himself, a former darling of the West, being able to buy out his life, unlike his slain sons Uday and Qusay in Mosul in a hail of US gunfire.
mred - watching gwb on beeb - he says sh 'murdered people, tortured them, rape-rooms' - this is a bit reminscent of his odd sex-slave comment. im not sure what the point is...
As recently as December 7, the Associated Press listed the major suspected mass grave sites” as being six in number, with an actual vote count by authoritative sources as being less than 4,000. Of this number, 3115 were unearthed at Mahaweel in Southern Iraq, identified as being killed in the Shiite uprising of 1991 against the Baghdad regime, an uprising promoted by the CIA. A war crime?
In Baghdad, the occupation authorities showed, over and over again, those images - far more haunting for his victims than for us Westerners - of the Beast of Baghdad.
If they were Che Guevara's eyes, the beard belonged to Fidel Castro. There was even a kind of crazed Karl Marx in the face. Brutal, of course. They all are, the Middle East's dictators
Indeed, more and more Iraqis were saying before Saddam's capture that the one reason they would not join the resistance to US occupation was the fear that - if the Americans withdrew - Saddam would return to power. Now that fear has been taken away. So the nightmare is over - and the nightmare is about to begin. For both the Iraqis and for us.
mred - am watching Fauxnews - i read sumwhere that some stupid FalkingHead on fox yesterday predicted that sh's capture would add 1000 points to the dow... turns out that the mkt was flat - Faux's reason? 'the market believed preisdent bush'. im seruios. 'bush has been saying all along that he'd find saddam, so now that he has been found, the mkt shrugged cos they knew it all along. it was 'pre-discounted - if u will'
and this fabulous one: "who on earth would defend saddam hussien? that should be a good one. (smirk)"
praps they get james baker - when he isnt busy defending the saudi govt in the 911 case brought by the families of victims
Faux txtscroll: "why did saddam surrender SO meekly?" (emphasis not mine)
