mred: ok - so two new tapes - there are questions, as always. firstly, the same guy sent two different tapes to 2 different newschannels - apparently with largely the same message. its not apparent why that was done (and i dont know why *they* did it either).
"You Bush, protect your country and step up your security measures."
apparently this is sposed to be a taunt - but if i was a terrorist, im not sure id say 'step up your security measures' - id be more likely to say 'it doesnt matter what security measures u take' - the way it is written (translated?) it seems to cutely dovetail with a defense/hls budget advertisement.
"The Islamic Ummah Mujaheda (Nation of fighters), which sent its brigades to New York and Washington, is determined to send more 'Death Brigades."
there seems to be an effort to splinter AlQ into random groups that are impossible (for me) to track. a cynical person might question whether the extra level of detail is merely an attempt to promote the presumption accuracy. theres also an apparent attempt to get someone to appear to take credit for 911 - although the parenthetical nature of the comment puts it into question... and of course, it seems more likely that george lucas or the cia would come up with terms like 'death brigades' than some cavedweller (its an audiotape this time - apparently the video camera batteries are dead).
Speaking of the difficulty of dancing along the 'appropriate detail' line - how buot this one: "Bush has delivered the State of Union Speech to the Congress." - if i was this terrorist guy, i wouldnt have said 'to the congress' - id prolly just refer to it as the 'State of Union speech' - in fact i dont know the difference between congress and the senate - and sotu is more a speech to the world, or at least the nation, rather than 'to congress'
we also get a shot at some other favourites: " "This is a campaign planned by the Crusader Zionists with their agents in Egypt, Turkey and Tunisia and other Islamic countries," Zawahri said."
"We remind Bush that situation is not stable in Afghanistan"
message: an invitation to invade afghanistan and chase into the pakistan border
"We remind Bush that he didn't destroy two-thirds of Al-Qaida."
message: u must escalate
the propaganda is relentless:
"Rashwan said he believed both tapes were authentic and that issuing them at about the same time to the two stations "requires logistical ability ... and also a central decision to be able to do that. This is not insignificant organizational capabilities."
message: alqaida is regrouping - more war is needed. the funny thing is how stupid they sound, and how little respect they have for the sheeple or journos (praps deservedly) - i guess i just answered my own question - why have 2 tapes to 2 networks? cos that apparently absolutely demonstrates the strength of alqaida! thank god this guy pointed out the message to me - i certainly didnt ascertain the significance - phew! another question answered. this is so ridiculous im speechless.
and theres this nice bit: " identifiable by his voice and rhetorical style" which is uncomfortably close to "identifiable by his voice and homosexual style", "identifiable by his voice and racial style" et al

to add some more confusion - yahoos 'most viewed' - has had both a green polar bear and paris hilton (not together) at #1 i the last few hours - that slot must be some pretty fucking valuable real estate.
