As gullible as usual, the 'intellectual leftist' Dean supporters failed to question how the switch had been stage-managed so swiftly, and simply repainted their placards to read, "John Kerry for President 2004". Few noticed an article in the Jerusalem Post the very next day, boldly headed "Kerry to get Jewish vote!"
The Boston Globe hired a genealogist to look into Kerry's family background, and found not only that his grandmother was Jewish, that also that his grandfather, Frederick A. Kerry, was born Fritz Kohn, to Jewish parents. Kerry pretended to be astonished by this news, saying "This is incredible stuff. I think it is more than interesting; it is a revelation."

Anyway, it so happens that Howard Stern, a former Bush supporter, gushed about the book last week to his bajillion fans ? even though in the book Franken calls him a McCarthyite. ?You know what?? Stern said. ?If Al says it, it must be true, because I love the book, and he seems to be right-on about everything . . . If you read this book, you will never vote for George W. Bush. I think I?m one of those ?anybody but Bush? guys now.?

Here, perhaps more than anywhere else, is where the Bush budget is the most deceptive.
To date, contrary to the modern tradition of an Administration funding large scale, ongoing wars, at least in part, through the regular appropriations process, the Bush Administration has refused to request funds for the war in Iraq in its annual budget. The Administration waits until funds for the troops are almost exhausted before requesting additional funds through a Supplemental.
This year, however, the political posturing has gotten worse. Not only did the President not include any funds in its budget for the ongoing operations in Iraq, the Administration has announced that no supplemental will be sent to the Congress until after - after - the November elections, depriving the American voters of any opportunity to judge the president based on his promises about the costs of a war in Iraq.
This is a budget of gimmicks, false promises, and unrealistic expectations. It's a budget of misdirection, canards, speciousness, spuriousness, sophistry, equivocation, fallacies, prevarications, and flat out fantasy.
