"we live in a very cynical time. people accept lies as the daily reality. even reality tv isn't real."
mred
hmmmm - u r prolly rite. the alternative is that people dont know that they are being lied to (cf fox). or perhaps the missing piece is that people expect & accept that there will be lies, but they dont consider the implications (or reason). 'politicians lie' is different to 'politicians lie and our water isnt safe', or 'politicians lie and people die' or some such.
its reasonable to accept that people are cynical - however theres a difference between accepting lies, and accepting the implications of those lies. lies are not created equal - there are pretty big differences between "i did not have sex with that woman" and "oops - we meant $550bn", or "we know where the wmd are" - at some point, presumably, u reach a stage where the inmplications are so significant that 'we expect politicians to lie' holds less water.
it depends on what your definition of "lIeS" is.
