"And it has, at least, five political implications that affect each one of us here today.
FIRST: Israel is to be exalted and defended no matter what they do to the Palestinian people.
Secondly: institutions like the United Nations are not to be trusted because they are tools of the Antichrist.
Thirdly: since the world is passing away the environment is not of great importance. For Bush to act for sustainability would require a major shift in his religious narrative.
Fourth: the trust that Jesus died for "my sins" is far more important than the teachings of Jesus. This fosters a domesticated therapeutic religious expression that insists that "jesus in my heart" is more important than my lifestyle.
Fifth: a leader who loves Jesus is to be followed as God's man for the hour. The Christian leader is God's shepherd over the American flock. As stated before Bush sees himself as a Messiah figure

CONCLUSION: The point I'm trying to make is that we are not dealing simply with politics when it comes to the Bush administration. "

heres an interesting (long) article about the christian (sic) right (sic) and ohmygeddon. i dont really think of the cadmin thru a religious lense cos the power perspective seems sufficient (except maybe ashcroft - who actually seems to Believe) - and i dont understand religion at all - but its interesting to get a view on the audience the cadmin is trying to appeal to.

on the other hand, it looks like gwb and sharon et al are actively trying to cause ohmygeddon.

the one point that curiously stuck out in gwbs 'keynote address' (purported one hour press conference, filibustered with a 17 mins monologue) was when he said 'the time is now' - starting directly into the camera, and pausing forever before continuing the sentence. it *seemed* to me at the time that it was some sort of coded message (it doesnt come across in the text) - but it seemed like a Message. spooky.

it seems much safer to be anti-xtian right than antisemite... but while im at it... i dont have anything interesting to add about the latest bush/sharon joint bedwetting or the (latest) assassination other than it seems to confirm my overriding sense that the *actual purpose* is to create totalwar - from israel to iraq and dog knows where else. its difficult to doubt - peace is the last thing they want. and the lesson from najaf/fallujah/jenin is that the US has adopted israeli tactics which have proven to be unsuccessful. fallujah makes mytai look like a fond memory - demanding that women and children leave town, screaming 'SUBMIT OR DIE' via megaphones, attacking mosques. could they be that crazy?

btw - it looks like tenet is getting hung out to dry. ive always thought that he had too much power, and knows too much about 911, to be vulnerable - if im correct, then we can maybe expect to see tenet striking back which would be fun. more likely, the 'slam dunk' thing can and will be adequately passed off as being taken outta context or some such...
