1. btw - heres the cheney's nigeria problem - its been 'news' for a year or so - but it might be getting serious. it seems like its been low profile in amerika - i cant keep track of what does/nt hit the us media airwaves.

2. thrice gorgeous. this story gets nicer by the day. the chinese might nuke taiwan to pre-empt taiwan pre-empting a chinese attack. i said a long time ago - preemption begets preemption - thats your fucking democracy dominoes in action.

"SHENZHEN - China should withdraw its undertaking on no first-use of nuclear weapons should Taiwan try to blow up the Three Gorges Dam, according to some parliamentary delegates."
3. "A group of more than 450 professors of law, international relations, and public policy--led by Harvard Law School faculty members--today sent a letter calling on Congress to hold accountable, through impeachment and removal if appropriate, civilian officials from the top of the Executive Branch on down for policies developed at high levels that have facilitated the recent abuses at Abu Ghraib."

we are increasingly seeing this sort of thing - including the 'unprecedented' letter just on friday of 27 former ambassadors . nice and all that, but where the fuck where all these people 2 years ago??? in a cute sign of desperation, the cadmin discounted the 27 as a partisan body cos 13 of them had donated money to the dems. lol. doesnt eevryone give to both 'teams'?

5. from the britishmedicaljournal "Bush plans to screen whole US population for mental illness" including preschoolers, "including "state-of-the-art treatments" using "specific medications for specific conditions."

its nice that the compassionate conservatism is extending to the mentally stretched and all that - but given that ssris are no better than placebo, and they drive suicidality and homocidality and psychotic withdrawal, do we really want everyone juiced up on this stuff? and if we combine this with the whole draft thingy where 30million are gonna get sucked into the system and given anthrax shots, or mmr or whatever else, im not sure that the end picture is pretty. the best interpretation is that they simply dont care about people killing themselves and each other and are only interested in $. a less friendly assessment might suggest that they are actively trying to create a generation of psychos. remember those soldiers who came home and killed their wives and families? and the people on ssris who flipped into homicidality? (not to mention all the birth defects and miscarriages et al) the more people we drug, the more of this we are gonna get. and it was all intentionally, specifically covered up. who trusts these people any more to put drugs in our bodies, and our kids' bodies? unquoted increases in miscarriages and deformity rates of 5% or some such - and thats only the stuff thats been determined so far - the real numbers are prolly much greater, and the problems will live for generations. its not yet clear whether these costs will be categorised as 'friendly fire' or 'collateral damage' - praps even 'friendly damage' - but the damage is the same. we have seen the drug company logic and the morality undoubtedly goes like this: kill people, tell lies, make money, bribe politicians. its not even arguable anymore.and now they wanna do the same to um everyone. and the benefit side of the equation is irrelevant. its been obvious for a long time that the placebo is at least as effective, and with fewer downsides (eg murder, suicide).
6. need i point out that iraqi sovereignty is only 10 days away? or praps 10 years away? the cadmins claims of 'iraqi sovereginty' are as useful as any of their other claims in a kafka/orwellian world (which, when u think about it for a minute or a year, is a pretty weird world)
7. and hats off to the rove admin for virtually never saying that saddam did 911. they said everything but that which shows how carefully orchestrated every word and sentence is. which just goes to prove how sophisticated/disengenuous they are, and how much cover they build for themselves. "we said '911 blah. saddam blah blah.' not '911 blah, ergo saddam blah blah.' " - they knew they'd be called on it, and they had inbuilt deniability - which shows how they construct each sentence - perfectly manufactured, syllable by syllable.
