"There are people who say 'Why can't we be like France or Germany ... ?'" U.S. Congressman Henry Bonilla told the enthusiastic crowd. "If you like those places so much, why don't you move there?"

The Texas Republican Party also endorsed an affirmation of "the United States of America as a Christian nation, and the public acknowledgement of God (as) undeniable in our history."
A close reading of a full-page advertisement in the convention program revealed the party's state of mind. The ad, paid for by defense contractor Lockheed Martin (which in the same week as the convention, was awarded a $995 billion contract from the Air Force), quoted President Bush: "We will not waiver. We will not tire. We will not falter. We will not fail." The words are superimposed on an American flag, with a fighter jet in the foreground, pilot visible inside the cockpit. The implication is that the pilot, George Bush, is ready to strike against those who disagree with the Republicans' American Way.
Congressman Lamar Smith told the crowd that President Bush has two opponents, John Kerry and the liberal media, including ABC, CBS, NBC, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the New York Post. "Newspapers run negative stories about George Bush's administration. If there is no objective and unbiased media, we have a direct threat to American democracy."
As the Republican Party of Texas mourns Reagan's passing, they cherish his memory through an agenda of intolerance that targets anybody who stands in the way of their goal to root Democrats out of office at every level of government. Gina Parker, who ran unsuccessfully for state party chairmanship on an anti-abortion, pro-gun, and pro-business platform, opened a window on the world of conservatives in Texas: "We are waging war on our own society. My boots were made for walking all over the Democrats and re-electing President George Bush."
