Foreign Minister Alexander Downer pressured ABC TV into dumping a promotion for a BBC documentary that raised questions about Australia's security warnings before the Bali blasts.
The promotion for last night's episode of The Third World War was pulled off air on Monday after Mr Downer and the Foreign Affairs Department complained that it was wrong. ABC managing director Russell Balding withdrew the promotion even though the broadcaster said yesterday it was accurate.
At the heart of the complaints were excerpts in the promotion that referred to the department's warnings about Bali before the 2002 bombings. Viewers were told the US upgraded its security warnings for Bali just days before the blasts, while it was business as usual for Australia and Britain.
