* the Moon story gets weirder http://citypaper.net/articles/current/cb.shtml

* cheney is still at it
"But Cheney on Thursday repeated his assertions of high-level ties between Iraq and terrorists, including members of al-Qaida. "These ties included senior-level contacts going back a decade," he said."

* "the Labor Department reported that only 112,000 jobs were created last month, less than half of the Wall Street expectation of 250,000" thats down 65% since april and 50% on may.

*saddams trial - im still not sure that they have him - regardless, yesterdays stories arent what they seem. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/variety/20040701/va_ne_al/sounds_of_silence_3 and http://media.guardian.co.uk/site/story/0,14173,1251616,00.html

remember, all the reports are from peterjennings christianampour, some nyt journo (can any of them speak iraqian?) and a single arab (aljaz) journo. there was no sound in the video except for some of it which was apparently leaked in or spliced in. presumably the translation cant be verified.

al arabiya wasnt there, and "Sadiq Rahim, working for the widely circulated Iraqi newspaper Azzaman, was called a day before to attend the trial but was refused entry minutes before the start of the hearing, said Ahmed Abdul-Majeed, the paper's editor in chief." http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=496&e=19&u=/ap/iraq_tv

it was most curious that he was put in a suit - especially given the shackles.
"Saddam arrived in a blue jumpsuit — the prison uniform given to regime detainees on Wednesday, when their legal custody was handed over to Iraqi authorities by the U.S. military. The former president changed into off-the-rack civilian clothes provided by authorities in an adjacent room"
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=1&u=/ap/20040701/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_saddam_97
"At one point, he took a pen out of his coat and made notes on a piece of yellow paper." which was quite odd - it wasnt his suit, and it wasnt obvious why he'd have a pen and paper there. the cameras were keen to point it out for some reason. its getting difficult to get a pen on an airplane these days, im surprised theyd let a mass-graver have one!

its not obvious why they didnt give him a lawyer. perhaps so they could say 'he was defiant" and "refused to sign..."

* re f911 - nice to see more controversy - the fec has to decide whether ads for the movie are political ads and therefore arent able to run the ads. and apparently a poster was quoting a reviewer "everyone should see this film" which they had to remove cos not everyone can see the movie cos of its rating. lol.

* looks like yukos will be nationalised this month

* ozzie election looks like being in last 2 weeks of october. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,10025292%255E2702,00.html
looks like murdoch got his wish with that odd 'delay election' story. its perfect timing for a US october surprise. and it might just save an attack in the us, and itll avoid any of that messy election business. it might even avoid an ozzie election. one things for sure, if it is designed to blow up the us election a week or two in advance from across the seas, then itll have to be a ripper of an attack...

* ozzie spy whistleblower: "the first intelligence eyewitness from any of the invading powers to offer an explanation of how false intelligence assessments led the three countries into an unnecessary, unlawful and unjust war."
