blessed are the somnambulant

* "(In a poll done for Newsweek magazine this week, 42 percent of the respondents continue to believe that Saddam Hussein was directly involved in the Sept. 11 attacks.)" http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/10/opinion/10herbert.html

* if hollinger was a kleptocracy - wtf is the cadmin??

* everyone is screaming about the cheney kerry/terror comment - giving it gazillions of inches - meaning lots of people are hearing that (maybe) a vote for kerry is a vote for another 911.

* dont think of an elephant. 'attacking our opponents' frame reinforces their message' http://www.alternet.org/mediaculture/19810/

* in a brave statement "Kerry's running mate, John Edwards accused Cheney of "crossing the line" with his comments." ummm - what side of the line was cheney on b4 this comment???

* Freedom is on the macho

* it looks like zarq is getting some new attention. phew. i was worried that he'd got all quiet on us.

* i wish i knew how to save us all. for the mo', im all out of ideas. btw - i mentioned a while back that i was gonna set up a non-weirdo blog where i was gonna lay out a simple 'madrid looks like oz - the same thing might happen here, look after yerselves' given the media reticence to draw the obvious parallels - theres no need now since the 'JI' attack last week.

* btw - remember the odd leaking of the abug pix which insured frontpage coverage for weeks. the only 'rational' reason for that was to inure people for what was to come - with the leaking of the rest of the 2000 pix and the butty raping videos and all that. cept they never turned up. so im not sure what the point was of the drip feed of those pix. curious. also curious, not a single leak of non-authorised pix (cbs was involved there as well of course - in fact no-one else could use the pix w/out cbs' permission & watermark) - despite all the reports of them being used on screensavers, and soldiers trading the cd's and all that jazz. sy hersh saw the rape vids - i thought mebbe they were prolly gonna leak after that. i dunno wot it all means. odd tho.

* if parents are the anti-drug, wtf is the badmin?

* my parenting score is down to 6/10. if i ever ran for president against bush, id get the mccain treatment: 'luke has black babies which is bad' and also 'luke kills babies which is also bad' - i dont think id get credit where its due 'luke kills black babies which is good' but maybe 'luke is weak on security' and praps the willie horton treatment 'he feeds the dogs which killed the babies' and praps a bad score on the economy 'he feeds the dogs, but they were still so hungry that they had to kill the rabbits so that they didnt starve'. etc.

* "AP: Thousands of Iraqis Estimated Killed" http://apnews.myway.com/article/20040908/D84VORE00.html this is a funny article - full of the usual tricks. even the headline is cute - 'thousands' and 'estimated' "10,363 violent deaths in Baghdad and nearby towns since the war began last year - deaths caused by car bombs, clashes between Iraqis and coalition forces, mortar attacks, revenge killings and robberies." ummm - how bout bombs dropped out of the sky by courageous americans? so disgusting. and while we're pretending to do body counts - the one number that doesnt *ever* get mentioned is the dead iraqi non-civilians - and we can all imagine what sort of accounting shenanigans go on when defining someone as a civilian vs a fighter/soldier. u'd have to be a nun in a church, praying, 1000kms away from any fighting to be a civilian rather than a foreign insurgent dressed up as a nun.
