i see dread, people

* "But it's disturbingly banana-republic-like when a large majority of the opposition party is convinced that the election mechanics are rigged against them. Has there been any other presidential election in recent history where that was true?" http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2004_10/004991.php

* newscorp is moving from adelaide to delaware - hitting the nyse on nov12. which prolly means nothing - but given that we are expecting maybe not to have a president by then, and given that mkts tend to be nervous with uncertainty, it does seem a little odd. it seems to be a large unnecessary risk - moving a gazillion $ empire when u can almost expect that theres some unnecessary risk. praps he doesnt have much choice in the timing. or praps he is confident that there wont be any errorist attack. or he wants to get the post-election bush mkt uplift. or praps he knows that 43 will be reinstalled with a resounding majority by wednesday. or praps it means nothing at all.

* dbrooks writes a piece of trollop, of course: http://nytimes.com/2004/10/26/opinion/26brooks.html?hp - as one pundit writes "I would describe this as a rather well-crafted takedown of David Brooks were it not for the fact that the byline reads "David Brooks." http://yglesias.typepad.com/matthew/2004/10/metabrooks.html - but that observation kinda misses the point - and brooks always has a point, and u can always find it buried at the end. and the point here is that 43 will win, and the realitybased crowd will just have to accept it.

* krug "The story of the looted explosives has overshadowed another report that Bush officials tried to suppress - this one about how the Bush administration let Abu Musab al-Zarqawi get away." and "What really happened on 9/11, or in Iraq? Next week's election may determine whether we ever find out." http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/26/opinion/26krugman.html

* up is white. down is black.

* this is a little bit funny - repugporn http://www.liegirls.com/flash.html

* "Karl Rove, the president's chief political adviser, also contended that The Times had chosen to run the article at the end of the campaign..." we love u karl http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/26/politics/campaign/26campaign.html

* "In 2000, the electorate in Florida was 40% Democrat, 38% Republican, and 22% Independent. gallup in florida is polling Rep: (44%) Dem: (36%)... Now, of course, we have Gallup showing Bush ahead in Florida 51 to 43" when everyone else has the fl race even. http://www.mydd.com/story/2004/10/26/124455/58

* "A secret document obtained from inside Bush campaign headquarters in Florida suggests a plan - possibly in violation of US law - to disrupt voting in the state's African-American voting districts, a BBC Newsnight investigation reveals." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/newsnight/3956129.stm
