* "Two phrases from the Franco-Algerian war of the 1950s-1960s tell it all and ring true today: “torture is to guerrilla war what the machine gun was to trench warfare in the First World War” and “torture is the cancer of democracy.”" http://www.juancole.com/2004_11_01_juancole_archive.html#109981255391018803

* "> Exit polls aren't God: When it comes to exit polls, the "first and second waves" are always weird. The early numbers may offer demographic trends, but they don't reveal who is likely to win. And as one cable insider put it: "If they were perfect, why would we have elections? They are merely a guide."" http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/archive/2004_11_08_archive.asp#109989066321444986

* heres a thought - its true that bush isnt hitler - hitler apparently killed 6m people. and 43 still seems under 200,000. hitler still would have been hitler if he killed 3m peeps. and probably 2m. and probably 500k. if he'd been murdered a coupla years earlier, he still would have been 'hitler'. at what point does it become reasonable to say that bush=hitler?
* cnn: 'only 50000 civillians are thought to still be fallujah' i hope they catch zarq
