im a whore precedent

VOTE
* gregoire 'wins' WA by 130 votes. woohoo. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-washgov24dec24,0,7396673.story?coll=la-home-headlines

* "New video suggests voting firm Triad sought to thwart recount of paper ballots" (background: if the 3% recount (hand/machine) dont match, then full recount required) go read. http://www.bluelemur.com/index.php?p=514

* "The following is a motion made by Tom Barbera and the other Massachusetts electors. The electors passed the motion unanimously. Mr. Barbera received a standing ovation after he read it out loud."
http://www.caef.us/ma-resolution.html

* nyt frontpages an ohio story - total 'limited hangout' tho. no mention of conyers eg. at least it looks like they are nervous. i think journo tomzller is a creep. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/24/national/24vote.html

WART
* fighting is still going on in fallujah. mosul is ten times the size of fallujah. can they really have an election? certainly not a meaningful one. tsports says 4/1 no election by jan31. who's gonna protect the troops who protect the voters?

* nyt ed "There may still be time for Washington to try to salvage the election, but that would require paying much more serious attention to legitimate Sunni grievances and showing an openness to postponing the election for several months... If postponing the election date can ensure more adequate Sunni participation, it is in everyone's interest to do so." (googlenews doesnt pick up this ed piece for some reason) http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/22/opinion/22wed1.html?n=Top%2fOpinion%2fEditorials%20and%20Op%2dEd%2fEditorials&pagewanted=all&position=

* "Representatives of seven nations met in Ottawa this week to recruit international observers for the Iraqi elections and agreed to watch the vote, but from the safety of Amman, Jordan.
They said it was too dangerous to monitor the voting in Iraq, meaning international observers are unlikely for the elections on Jan. 30 - making them the first significant vote of this sort recently with no foreign presence" http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/23/politics/23elect.html

* do we really think that chalabi is an iranian spy? remember all that nonsense about breaking the iranian codes and drunk looselipped diplomats & all that? i wonder where that rubbish will lead us...

* the beeb interviewed a solider from 'operation iraqi truth' or whatever its called. nice to see this sort of thing outside of demnow.

* "Tony Blair, acknowledged yesterday in Baghdad that violence would continue both before and after the January 30 elections, but added: "On the other hand we will have a very clear expression of democratic will." Does he not know that "democracy" is what Iraqi women use nowadays to frighten their naughty children, by shouting: "Quiet, or I'll call democracy."" http://www.commondreams.org/views04/1222-27.htm

* i wonder if the mosultent thingy was a frag. prolly not - but the other versions seem unlikely, too.

* btw - the teeve is saying 'some of the returning residents of fallujah are even getting iris-scanned & fingerprinted' - presumably they mean 'all', not 'some' - what would be the point of biometricing just 'some'? stoopid media. i hope 'some' of em get rico'd

OTHER
* im seeing more pix on the teeve of smokingsoldiers. usually marlboro. deathstix. will someone wake up and smell the bacci?

* " it's not that they're like the Nazis, it's just that they aren't different enough." http://www.portapulpit.com/2004/12/first-they-came-for-muslims.html

* who would jesus shag?
