* the beeb is doing a story on bush's 'strong mandate' - and doing
a bit on ohio 'which essentially delivered 43 the presidency' - no
mention of any of the legal challenges or vfraud or anything - just
'ohioans want the pres to do xyz'. grrr.

* "In a sign that Votergate news stories will soon become impossible for the mainstream media to ignore, news of ground-breaking developments in the national scandal is now coming so fast and so furiously... scheduled depositions of the President, Vice-President, and the so-called "architect" of the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign, Karl Rove, for today and tomorrow... at least fourteen members of the House of Representatives have committed to contesting certification" http://nashuaadvocate.blogspot.com/2004/12/news-election-2004-president-bush-to.html

* "Brzezinski said there was now a growing probability that a "Shia theocratic government which is not going to be a genuine democracy" would win Iraq's elections to be held on 30 January.
Kissinger said the US should not accept a Shia theocracy for all of Iraq. "And if it reaches this point, then we really have no interest in keeping Iraq united... Then we might just as well let each of these competing ethnic groups create their own self-government, rather than imposing a theocracy on, or cooperate with creating a theocracy for, all of Iraq."" hooray henry. http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/15BC52A7-AA34-4853-AABC-16F803F2D8BF.htm

* "It is time to invade Cuba and put an end to what has become another Devil's Island in the annals of government-sanctioned torture. The barbaric treatment of political prisoners on the island is made no more palatable by being conducted in the name of an ideology that claims to be liberating the world from its shackles."

* can michael leeden please die? hopefully painfully. but ill willingly settle for 'soon' " No matter how strongly we wish it to be otherwise, we are engaged in a regional war, of which Iraq is but a single battlefield. The war cannot be won in Iraq alone, because the enemy is based throughout the region and his bases and headquarters are located beyond our current reach. His power is directly proportional to our unwillingness to see the true nature of the war, and our decision to limit the scope of our campaign... Faster, please." http://nationalreview.com/ledeen/ledeen200412230828.asp

* "One U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the CIA's technical analysis of a two-minute, five-second tape that surfaced Monday concluded with "moderate confidence" that the voice is likely bin Laden's. Poor audio quality made it difficult to reach a more certain conclusion yada.. That tape formally names Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi as al-Qaida's leader in Iraq and tries to persuade Muslims not to vote yada" seriously, when do they stop making this shit up? or when do people get sick of it? or wake up to it? http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&e=5&u=/ap/20041228/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/bin_laden_alliance

* xymph on rummy's 911/93 comment - its not particularly clear -
but it does reiterates my point that he knows point that rummy knows too much to be tossed out on his rumpy - as do all the others who have
apparently mastered the art of falling uphill (or getting fleedom medals on their way out). flite93 of course generated such mythical-sounding stories as toddbreamer's LetsRoll and it was also the reason that condi had to simultaneously be in florida and dc - cos she was the one who overheard cheneys conversation with 43 about the order to shoot down the flight - exactly why is still a mystery.
