* "A review of election results in a 10-county sampling revealed more than 12,000 ballots that failed to record a vote for president, almost one in every 10 ballots cast. The unofficial audit by Scripps Howard News Service uncovered malfunctioning voting machines, improperly designed ballots and poor accounting procedures around the nation."
um - 10%. "Local election officials were asked why their vote tallies didn't match their ballot counts. All but one county official admitted they did not make this important crosscheck before reporting results that, most now concede, contained significant errors. State officials also failed to notice the discrepancies... Four of the 10 counties contacted in this study have amended their official vote certifications." http://www.knoxstudio.com/shns/story.cfm?pk=MISCOUNT-ELECT-12-20-04&cat=AN
* the triad problem has been resolved. the board of elections called the guy in and asked him to show them what they did. so he did something in front of them, and now everyone is happy. go figger.
* btw - diebold technicians have been accused of doing the same thing as the triad guy - ie - unobserved prepping a machine so that it is ready for the recount. (and the Eaton example is just one example of triad's machine prepping - ie it was going on elsewhere as well. unsupervised)
FURIOUS GEORGE
* "President Bush said at a rare press conference this morning that Rumsfeld was doing a "very fine job." Andy Card yesterday praised Rumsfeld for doing a "spectacular job." Now, if this is "very fine" and/or "spectacular," we can only tremble imagining what Rummy's "failures" must look like. Also in Rumsfeld's corner: Texas Senator John Cornyn, who said the secretary's resignation "would be handing a gift to the jihadists and the insurgents and those who want to see us defeated in Iraq."" http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/archive.html?blog=/politics/war_room/2004/12/20/rumsfeld/index.html
