VOTE
* 'The maker of Franklin County's election machines has pinpointed the error that made a laptop computer give thousands of extra votes to President Bush on election night: Just like any overworked and distracted human, the machine was trying to do too much at once." hmmm - just like any powerful human, corruption can get to computers. "Technicians concluded the laptop was busy completing another task just as numbers from that precinct were being fed into it." (its an AP article of course)http://www.onnnews.com/Global/story.asp?S=2938130

* oooh - i saw ari3 on fauxnews in baghdad. nice to see him. is he a faux 'contributor' now? 'the sunnis are grumpy because the democracy train has left the station, and they arent on it'

WAR
* "But as contractors were quickly finding out, working in Iraq is a risky business -- 232 employees of U.S. private contractors have been killed there, according to a report released last month by the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction." i hadnt seen that # before. thats 1700 deadams for blinkys excellent adventuring. this is an interesting article actually - about aermicans murdering americans... i wonder if nickberg was implicated in something similar... i wonder if he said something in that mmoore interview (if it ever happened)

* surely the syrians arent so stupid to bomb beirut. shorter ari2 'we dont know who did it - except syria did it'. maybe everyone is asking the wrong question - maybe it isnt 'who would benefit from destabilising lebanon?', but rather 'who would benefit from syria looking bad?'

* "Why Rice should thank Zarqawi: This poisonous Jordanian terrorist has done the world a service. Almost at a stroke he has eased away the accumulated grievances between Washington and Paris, between America and Europe, by couching the struggle in Iraq in terms that force even the French onto the side of President Bush." go read this - its pretty funny. i think i saw zark working at a seveneleven. http://www.washtimes.com/upi-breaking/20050208-060649-1569r.htm

* "A U.S. official acknowledged that drones were being used but said the Iranian complaint focused on aircraft overflights by the Pentagon. The United States, the official said, replied with a denial that manned U.S. aircraft had crossed Iran's borders. " they must think they are really clever. "They identified the drones early last month, a senior Iranian official said, and Iran's National Security Council decided not to engage the pilotless aircraft. That action is considered a major policy decision and reflects Iran's belief that an attack is unlikely anytime soon." i wonder how confident they are. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A19820-2005Feb12?language=printer

AMDOM
* "So how can we use this episode further? Either get Guckert to 'fess up, or find evidence from another source that he was blackmailed. The moment the "extortion" theory gains widespread acceptance, a minor scandal becomes a major one." http://cannonfire.blogspot.com/2005/02/last-words-on-gannonguckert-scandal.html

* " If you aren't smart enough to figure out what's wrong with President Bush's plan to privatize Social Security, then you won't be able to run one of the accounts-formerly-known-as-private, either." http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=18513&area=ivins

* heres an update on the fair/bulge-gate thingy http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2059 (one interesting thing to remember is that post-election, bumiller wrote a bit saying 'the cia have just acknowledged that it was a flakjacket' - which okrent hasnt commented on, or even used as a defense. presumably then, the nyt knows that that story was bunk - probably before they ran it, and certainly now)

* could bill owens be any spookier?

911
* bush says 'i agree with sharansky', patbuchanan says 'i agree wardchurchill' - "The United States was not attacked because we are free. Bin Laden was not attacking the Bill of Rights. We were attacked because the United--over here because the United States' military and political presence is massive over there." why does pat have a job? and a church? http://forum.truthout.org/blog/story/2005/2/14/122719/647

* btw - i mentioned briefly the conspiracy thingy yesterday wrt to bulgegate and 911 and the election - and i used that ghandi quote that everyone uses. anyways turns out popularmechanic has done a 911debunk coverstory thingy. (im not sure how popular popularmechanic is) - of course, the article does more pretending to debunk than actual debunking - but its interesting to see whether they think they have got to the point where the 'ignoring' thing isnt working very well. praps we'll get Delay referring to the xfile-wing again - or praps they'll roll out Georges De Paris to take the blame for some of the wrinkles in official story. geddit? wrinkles!

* speaking of 911, i havent seen the juxtaposition yet, but that bloody building in madrid burned all weekend and the damned thing didnt budge " despite having withstood temperatures in excess of 1,000 degrees centigrade". im not drawing any direct analogies - maybe it was made differently or some such (it was built a few years later). http://www.iht.com/getina/files/225478.html - the wtcs fell in like an hour or 2 didnt they? at 800C.
