the commander in chief must not blink

NOTGANNON
* wnd carry another damning notgannon article http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43031

* georgia10 is now working over at http://propagannon.blogspot.com/ - " Additionally, webpages dealings with the Propagannon investigation have been scrubbed from www.webarchive.org." thats pretty spooky. slurp goes the memory hole.

* "Democratic senators Durbin, Kennedy, Kerry, Lautenberg and Reid issued a letter Friday to President Bush calling for a full and transparent investigation into the discredited White House reporter writing under the pseudonym Jeff Gannon" just 5. some senior types tho. http://rawstory.com/news/2005/index.php?p=128

* interestingish speculative bit (which happens to mention cbgb's which is famous for other reasons): "My estimation is that a network of Texas Gays have been instrumental in Bush's rise to power and that a few of them just got very sloppy in a way that risks outing all of them. That's the reason why there's been this whole attempt to frame the issue as being about Gannon's personal life - they know perfectly well it's their OWN personal lives that that they're trying to protect." http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/2/19/204254/937

WAR
* "Reached by Salon for comment, Ritter confirmed his earlier statement. He would not identify his source other than to say that he or she was affiliated with the Bush administration, and had sought him out for his "expert advice on Iraq."
"I was approached on my ideas on how to stabilize Iraq," said Ritter. "My number one piece of advice was, don't bomb Iran. The response was, it's out of anybody's hands. It's a done deal."... Ritter said he had decided to come forward after hearing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice say that the administration was not considering such an attack. "She's lying through her teeth," says Ritter." http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/archive.html?blog=/politics/war_room/2005/02/24/ritter/index.html

* i hate the telaviv reporting - "at least 4 dead" ive been hearing all day. is it 4 dead? or are they trying to make it seem bigger than it is? i bet its near impossible to google a news report saying "at least x amgrunts dead in an explosion" in iraq for example. the same "at least 4" reporting is going on everywhere - its kind of annoying, but more than that, its curious. who sends out these memos?

* the guy who wrote Unfit4Command has written a book claiming that the dems are in the pocket of the moolahs. to be released in a month. in separate news, ritter says the war will begin in june. http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/284007p-243240c.html

* "The formal announcement Thursday that Canada will refuse any further participation in the controversial U.S. missile-defence shield was met with an immediate warning that Canada had given up its sovereignty." http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20050224.w3miss0223/BNStory/National/

* "On China, Bush once again warned against the EU abandoning its embargo on arms sales. EU diplomats are unanimous in stressing that the Americans are leading a "disinformation campaign" because "Israel sells more weapons to China than anyone else". Both France and the UK also sell a lot of weapons to China, so it was up to British Premier Tony Blair to spell out the facts to Bush." http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page/GB24Aa01.html

AMDOM
* this comment by blinky was truly astounding "Obviously, if you’re a member of the Russian press, you feel like the press is free... And if you're a member of the press corps and you feel comfortable with the press in Russia, I think that is a pretty interesting observation for those of us who don't live in Russia to listen to." the whole speech was fucking spooky. im surprised putin didnt slap him upside... " But I -- I talked to Vladimir about that. And he -- he wanted to know about our press. I said, nice bunch of folks."
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/02/20050224-9.html

* "The exchange illustrated more about the state of freedom in Russia than met the eye. While Putin travels around with a contingent of reporters just as Bush does, the Kremlin press pool is a handpicked group of reporters, most of whom work for the state and the rest selected for their fidelity to the Kremlin's rules of the game. Helpful questions are often planted. Unwelcome questions are not allowed. And anyone who gets out of line can get out of the pool." the illusion of reporting. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A51587-2005Feb24.html

* woolcott does good stuff with words " Conservatism and sadism have become indivisible." http://jameswolcott.com/archives/2005/02/lipstick_fascis.php

* sibel " The government has told a federal appeals court that a suit by an F.B.I. translator who was fired after accusing the bureau of ineptitude should not be allowed to proceed because it would cause "significant damage to the national security and foreign policy of the United States."" http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/26/politics/26whistle.htm

* repeat - when will cbs air the nigeranium story?

* i wonder if they'll get rid of dont ask/tell in time for the draft...

* frankluntz's playbook got leaked " “Much of the public anger can be immediately pacified if they are reminded that we would not be in this situation today if 9/11 had not happened.” " some hilites here (not the hannity bit) http://thinkprogress.org/index.php?cat=10

* oh arsenal...
