notgannon

* one incredible thing about notgannon is that he got caught as a shill, and then went on every conceivable program doing his best armstrongwilliams. surely, given his background, the best thing he could do (for him & others) was slink into the background. now, its possible that he just got uppity, but the entire media apparatus joined in, and was presumably allowed to join in, praps even 'encouraged'. he went from being obscure, to 15 days (so far) of fame, when he could have restricted it to just 15secs of bloggerfame, and kept his mug largely hidden. but nope, even when the whole m4m-registered-websites thing was known, he *then* went out and got a lot of, ahem, exposure... the *correct* choice at that point in time was to slink into the shadows. ok - so we've all made dumb choices, but he actually doesnt seem like an idiot... i saw him in just one (?) interview, and he seemed pathological, but not stupid (and actually seemed to have had some media training). at the time, i just figured, ok - so this guy is trying to parlay his situation into some exposure and a media gig - no problem - but he had quite a lot that he (presumably) wanted to hide, and his media appearances were likely to heighten the likelihood that he would get caught. (if memory serves, he actually did media *after* he did the touching farewell thingy on jeffgannon.com)

so what are we left with?
if we assume that no-one (family, whitehouse) knew that he was a hooker, his increased media exposure either suggest that: 1) he thought that he was cleverer than everyone else (not the first to fall for that one) 2) he was self-hating and 'wanted to get caught' (cf jayson blair et al). i'll leave the selfhating thing alone for the moment, cause i cant begin to speculate what that pysche is like. in terms of cleverer-ness, he knows what the skeletons are, and he knows that people are already chasing down his url's, and he knows that his family are already getting called (his poor 70 yo mum), and his cover has been blown, and people are already chasing down his pseudonyms, and his company names and all that, and he knows that people are trying to chase down the purported 'clients' for whom he apparently registered the domains 'for', and he knows he is knee-deep in the 16 sotu-words and federal investigations and wmd and plamegate, and the iraq war, and the payola thing and bush hating, and all that, and he knows there are thousands of people on the hunt, and what does he do? he offers more blood on the tv circuit - not only to bloggers, but also an invite to any of his johns, or the guy who built his sites, or anyone who has seen his peeny online. and he's got the delinquent tax thingy... id have thought that someone who had found jesus would have more sense.... perhaps he took the forgive and forget thingy a lil too literally. or praps 'turn the other buttcheek' (i couldnt resist *and* its kinda difficult to do the 'pun not intended' thing)

solicitation is a crime lets not forget, and he's already in the spotlight, and he's got the treasonous plamegate thingy on his plate already which must be causing him some sleeping trouble - and if he has caught the secretservice off guard cos they didnt do adequate checks, he's gotta know that they are gonna take a closer look already. and so what does he decide to do? double or nuthin - bring it on. no wonder he's always had a lawyer on retainer... and as john (handsome btw) at americablog says 'weve already dealt with the hypocrisy thing, cos he has resigned'. double or nothin? sextuple or nothin? 'mum - im gay and im a whore, and you are probably gonna hear/see a lot about me being naked. (and you'll learn how much i earn!)'


next scenario: ok - so what happens if we look at the scenario a little differently, and we add a couple of extra bits to the mix - lets assume (for fun) that no-one in the egadministration knew that notgannon was a deliquent (*2) whore in the beginning, but were alerted to the fact when dkos/amblog et al broke the story. so then, presumably, the secretservice/cia/fbi would have done background-nee-foreground checks and either 1) they are incompetent (which none of us believe (when it comes to protecting blinky's image)) 2) they uncovered the detail but couldnt prevent notgannon appearing on blitzer/hannity et al (which none of us believes) 3) they thought the best way to bury the story was to put notgannon in front of every camera in the country 4) (most deliciously) they decided that notgannon's (presumably) dirty laundry was best hung out for all to see (for some reason)

next scenario: if we imagine for a minute that the (entire) badministration isnt nearly as incompetent as they (sometimes) appear, and they knew (in advance) who notgannon is, then it becomes even more tantalising - cos then it would appear that they thrust him into the spotlight, knowing (presumably) that his background would be exposed - which opens up a completely different pandora's kettle of worms... necessarily speculative and conspiratorial... is notgannon a cia plant? (there has been rumblings (prayers?) for the best part of 3 years that the cia isnt happy with the idiotson)

hmmmm - so many questions - i wish i could go into them a bit further - if only there werent two imminent wars to worry about... i dont know what the answer is - but it seems that the notgannon story still has legs...
