notgannon is not any of these things. logic seems to dictate that he is there for one of two reasons - either blackmail (blackmailed, blackmailing), or he is plant who was *designed* to explode. or maybe both. its difficult to imagine that he was just a little whore who parlayed a midnight rendezvous with a texan repuglican into a seat with the president. if he was just your avg aspiring dirty little whore, he'd have sold the pix back to eberle or whoever for 10grand or 100 or whatever the number is - or he'd have sold his story to some tabloid and tried to get a book deal a long time ago or some such - not worked as a volunteer (orig) for talon. so the vanilla blackmail story isnt quite working for me at the mo.

what about the idea that he was a plant? well, one might hope that he was a cia plant, for example, with the cia spending the last couple of years establishing the cover, in case they needed something to try to stop the egadministration at some point. hersh and others have long said that there are peeps in the cia who are as scared as hell of the crazies... it might sound a bit too spooky, but what the hell, they're spooks after all. if they arent capable of at least considering something like this (either domestic or foreign) then they prolly arent doing their jobs properly.

hersh and others have long documented the dissent in the cia ranks - praps they set up notgannon in case they needed him... its not obvious why they would need the blackmail element tho - are there other govts which might have thought this useful? funny u shuold ask - cos israel has a long history of using sex and blackops and all that... sorry to bring up israel - but they just seem to be much better at this stuff - and it also possibly answers another question - why now?
i dont pretend to know a single thing about the middle east or israel or syria or lebanon etc ad nauseum - but it seemed like the stupidest thing in the world for syria to get frontpage coverage blowing up hariri when they should have been keeping their heads under the radar.

so, (purely speculating), is it plausible that the notgannon cover story was constructed, via the sexual blackmail of a few folk at the shitehouse, over the last couple of years or two, and then designed to implode just as the haririkiri took place? praps the egadmin were, dog knows why, reluctant to start another war at the mo and were getting cold feet - but the israelis really wanted to see a little more conviction and decided to hold their feet to the fire (just like the media is sposed to) (are the hold/cold feet metaphors mixed? or are they different sides of the same coin?). perhaps that explains why notgannon asked that question at that time, with the intention of being partially uncovered, and might also explain why the ams moved so swiftly (i think it was only 10 hours or so) to withdraw the syrian ambassador - perhaps that was one of the conditions that the israelis demanded as part of the blackmail terms, as a demonstrated signal that they were serious about escalating.

anyways - just a hypothesis - it would require a whole bunch of filling in - including where plame fits in (spy vs spy?), and some of his other scoops - like the start of the iraq invasion, and the thune thing. praps feith and the osp and larryfranklin were in the loop as well.

another thing - it seems that notgannons 'company' (bedrock) was purportedly a factoring company - from memory, i think ive read about other israeli spy companies using factoring fronts - praps its a good way to launder cash - altho its a silly idea to develop an observable m.o.

an interesting aside - if we imagine for the mo that the 'notgannon is an israeli plant' story has any validity - then we must assume that there are many other notgannons around - imagine that it takes 2 years to set up something like this, u've gotta assume that it is just a contingency - so u'd have to have a contingency for a whole range of plausible scenarios, and people, in different countries, ready to expose whenever it suited your purpose. thats gotta be a tough business to manage. machiavelli would be so proud. mcgreevey? less proud.
