reality, bifurcated

VOTE
* " Imagine if machinegun-toting Germans had performed similar electoral duties in occupied France, in 1942. Would any civilized observer have considered such a process legitimate?... The entire planet is rejecting blatant American lies and aggression, and actively conspiring to undermine United States military, economic and political domination. This aggression now has a new face – that of a Black woman. We are saddened at the historical irony, but so be it. Evil comes in all colors." http://blackcommentator.com/123/123_cover_rice.html

* " Voting in Baghdad was linked with receipt of food rations... Many Iraqis said Monday that their names were marked on a list provided by the government agency that provides monthly food rations before they were allowed to vote.... ”Two of the food dealers I know told me personally that our food rations would be withheld if we did not vote,”" let them eat ballotcake. im hungry. http://www.dahrjamailiraq.com/hard_news/archives/hard_news/000192.php

* in case u missed it - jmiller is back in trouble with the chalabi connection. it seems that the ams are actually appointing people to run iraq. everyone seems surprised. or maybe just surprised that she mentioned it on the teeve. ""We now are told, according to my sources, that the administration has been reaching out to Mr. Chalabi, to offer him expressions of cooperation and support and according to one report he was even offered a chance to be an interior minister in the new government."" read this http://slate.com/Default.aspx?id=2112900& - btw - i dont really know matthews - but theres an 'irregardless' thrown in there for my friend mlh... how will history judge mr chalabi? itd be sufficiently difficult even if we stopped history today - first there was the iraq war, and then the whole iranian spy/code thingy, and the jordanian embezzlement and who knows where to stop??? i mentioned the 'will chalabi be pres?' thing a few days ago - i cant remember if that qn preceded judy latest comments, or even what triggered my question - he must be some player. who will be the chalabi equiv in the persianincursion? and i note that jackshafer at slate quoted xymphora!

* speaking of miller, the roadblocking of howarddeans pres run is almost the equivalent in media terms. what with the faux scream and all. and his run for dnc chair is not dissimilar - cf novaks column yesterday (http://www.suntimes.com/output/novak/cst-edt-novak31.html) . it seems that dean is about the only person in the country they are scared of. cf also the wsj armstrongwilliams/jerome/kos thingy. was goliath ever scared of david? i love watching these fuckers when they are scared. id prefer to watch em get beat - but watching em scared is fun nonetheless.

* frost is outta dnc race. thank god. roemer is still in. telegenic, but undeserving.

* ya know - im totally fucking sick of the media doing a whole bunch of things - but can they please stop with the "Kerry, a Massachusetts senator," thing. it drives me batty. why dont the just say 'a frenchliberalpoofterwitharichannoyingwife'? http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=aqkoN4tLMDv8&refer=top_world_news

* jons takes on messopersia aka the persianincursion. history may wish it was a persianaversion. http://homepage.mac.com/onegoodmove/movies/ds012505messopersia.html

* "A group of hardline officials known as “nuclear hawks” is being promoted in a shake-up of the Bush administration's arms control and non-proliferation teams... European governments were naive to believe that Boltons resignation signalled a moderate approach. The promoted officials, he said, had less regard for arms controls and more commitment to building new generations of nuclear weapons and missile defence systems." http://news.ft.com/cms/s/65fe8ca4-73e9-11d9-b705-00000e2511c8,ft_acl=,s01=2.html

* raymcgovern on cheney on iran http://counterpunch.org/mcgovern01272005.html

* " A Web site posted a photograph of what it claimed was a kidnapped U.S. soldier, but doubts were quickly raised about its authenticity and the U.S. military said no soldiers were missing.
An American toy manufacturer said the figure in the photo resembled one of its military action figures, originally produced for sale at U.S. bases in Kuwait." lol http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=540&u=/ap/20050201/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_soldier&printer=1

* aaronbrown does this bit where they show the names/details of dead amgrunts - today some of the names that came up were from dec21 - the mosul messtent mess - i wonder if abrown was playing catchup - or if the deathtoll has risen since then - or if the amgovt tried to play down the deadcount then and is slowly leaking the deaths. im not sure how many abrown showed from there - but at least 2. (fwiw - i dont mind aaron the person - the agenda on the show is annoying tho)

* how long till turkey gets involved in iraq? how many good outcomes are there if that happens?

* btw - id love to see a followup report after a zarq tape - they always say 'the voice could not immediately be confirmed' - but theres never a followup. ever.

* heres a stupid thought - over the past years, how often have i seemed crazy? how mainstream have those cazy thoughts become? seriously. those once entertaining ramblings are now really mainstream. and still we havent seen rioting. that possibility now seems mandatory. the iran situation was obvious 2 years ago - and now we see jons open up a new segment. 2years ago, i wrote off the possibility of anything resembling a real election in the usa. 2 years ago i was doing the bush=hitler thing. 2 years ago i was saying that our best hope was a military takeover - cos that was all we had left. do these things sounds less hyperbolic today? its not that im a genius - merely that i was watching closely - and it was obvious way back then. its true that i thought itd happen more quickly - brd (rightly) laughed at me when i suggested that itd happen before the amelection - but it is happening nonetheless. the draft? i announced it 2 years ago - and anyone who is paying attention realises it cant be far away. maybe even in the next 24 hours. again - i don think im prophetic in any sense - the writing has been on the table - 'hidden in plain view' as s.j.gould would say. these people are fucking crazy - and need to be stopped - i dont know how itll happen - but they need to be stopped or/and we'll all die. the speech tomorrow might be as scary and/or anodyne as the one last week - but i fucking hope everyone has extra papers. most everything seems like guessing - except for the fact that the jihadmin will get worse. and worse. and they are already terrible. no-one pretends anymore that powell et al (or the election) was a brake, and if they were, then they are gone anyway. condi? gonzales? cambone? chertoff? the new 'dems-with-a-spine' mantra just isnt gonna cut it. it doesnt fucking matter what they do. next verse, worse than the first. the whole lame-duck thing? 2006 elections? cmon! throw all that shit out the window and see whats really happening. these people wont be stopped by any normal mechanism - thats why they threw the whole chex/balances thing out the window. its gonna take a revolution, and i wouldnt want my family in the way in the meantime. these people are fucking crazy - and they are smart. they know what the possible 'next steps' are - and i guarantee theyve taken pre-emptive measures against the predictable ones.

AMDOM
* krug dissembles the socsec argument. again. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/01/opinion/01krugman.html

* btw - kudos to joshmarshall for his work wrt socsec. and to krug. but to josh mostly - i was grumpy at him for *completely* ignoring the election shenanigans.

* evil fucker and 08 pres.hopeful santorum doesnt like the idea of the $2trill transition costs in socsec. so lets call it a 'prepayment'. orwell. gravy. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2005_02/005563.php

* andrewsullivan has decided to give up blogging. phew. hopefully he'll stop everything.

* btw - some of my fave bloggers are having puter probs. with sony vaiaos. im always nice to puters(!), but i managed to break 3 vaiaos in a row - they suck. never buy them for your staff. on a spearate tech note - i found a folder on my puter today called c:\recycler which was eating up 5gig

* is it time to a flashback to his recent sotus? remember the raperooms? remember the evils of drugs in sports (look at the reallylaughable new baseball rules, and thg2.0?) nigeranium? et al and al and al. get your sotu houseparties and drinking games ready. itll be morning time here - but whenever blinky speaks, alcohol is requisite. i really need to develop a drug habit. http://www.drinkinggame.us/

* i dont think ill ever talk to anyone again - but dog help me if its a bushfan. it seems that reality has totally bifurcated. which is kinda fine for those of us looking to the future - but can u imagine being in a marriage where u didnt get forewarning? imagine having to sit at the dinner table every night with someone who slipped down the wrong side of the divide? 'imagine hearing 'hunny - i love pres bush - remember those awful people on 911 and therefore its good that we went and killed 100k iraqis and we should intern. except those who are happy to vote. in iraq. its beautiful to watch them vote. we brung em freedom. we should abugger the rest of em. u can never be too careful. can we watch fox now?' - we know that abortions have gone up under this pres - but imagine the resultant # of divorces... marriage is between one man

* i hate chrishitchens
