WAR
* " Germany's federal prosecutor will not pursue a criminal complaint accusing US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld of war crimes in Iraq., reported Deutsche Welle. Even though a German law requires German prosecutors to investigate allegations of war crimes even if they are not committed by Germans or in Germans, German Federal Prosecutor Kay Nehm said US authorities bore the initial responsibility to do so. He added that his office could only act if US officials failed to do so, but said this was not the case." grrrrrrrrrrrr...http://www.focus-fen.net/index.php?catid=142&newsid=57534&ch=0&datte=2005-02-10

* "Richard Perle said intelligence suffered a major setback in Iran with the arrest of about 40 agents in the mid-1990s. "As I understand it, virtually our entire network in Iran was wiped out," Perle recently told the House of Representatives intelligence committee. "I think we're in very bad shape in Iran," he said." great - we are working on 10 yo intelligence. ""If U.S. intelligence was bad in Iraq, and it was atrocious, it's probably going to be worse vis-a-vis Iran," said Richard Russell, a former CIA analyst" http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=3POMHCOWES4YYCRBAELCFEY?type=topNews&storyID=7586007&pageNumber=1

* rumsfeld is talking about asymetric threats. isnt the fact that the ams are the only stuporpower the biggest asymetric threat?

* "Iranian president Muhammad Khatami threatened that Iran would turn into "a scorching hell" to fight off any intervention by Americans. Khatami began in 1997 by being a liberal who called for a "diaologue of civilizations". Many observers were taken aback by the vehemence of the moderate's language. The Bush administration may well be driving the reformers into the arms of the hardliners." http://www.juancole.com/2005/02/over-50-dead-in-iraq-carnage-as.html

* "It makes you wonder what the point of electing a new government was if the Americans can't keep alive the officials of the old one." http://www.juancole.com/2005/02/post-election-violence-and-maneuvering.html

* i still dont have a clue why 'we' are in iraq. and its still really fucking disconcerting. particularly cos we are soon to be somewhere else(s) as well. theres a meta-narrative somewhere - i wish i could see it. iran (&syria) surely isnt the end of the story, and presumably isnt the prize. so what is it??? one imagines that venezuela will get sucked into the game soon as well... where does it end? given that the ams are gonna attack iran, one wonders why they are telegraphing it so loudly? they certainly arent trying to gain any international support, and the ampeople will cheer loudly whoever they attack - and democracy there is as dead as a doornail anyway - 'the will of the people'? ha! more like 'the wills of the people' - so why all the drumbeating? its not difficult to imagine that theres something else going on under the radar. fucked if i know what it might be... prolly wont be pretty tho. its not difficult to imagine that syria and iran actually get attacked simultaneously - i posited that idea 2 years ago - why stop there? why not blow up venezuela on the same day? if they want ww4, why not totally bring it on? the level of craziness is growing exponentially anyways - how long till the curve gets totally vertical? rapture indeed.

* "The fact that the United States has some 480 nuclear weapons still stationed in Europe will come as a surprise to a lot of Europeans," said Mr Kristensen. "The big question is: 'Why are they still there more than a decade after the cold war ended?' Neither the United States nor Nato has been able to articulate a credible mission for the weapons." http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1409671,00.html

AMDOM
* imagine if the socsec transition costs ('pre-payments') balloon like the medicare costs...

* heres the wardchurchill speech at boulder http://informationclearinghouse.info/article8022.htm

* when the libertyplanter hears about nepal, do you think he says 'janetjackson' and giggles?

* parently theres a country called togo. i wonder what the democracygiver will do? togo. it aint kansas.

* " Tommy Franks (whose only claim to fame and appointment was that he was from Texas and went to school with Laura Bush)" who knew? if only he had been her boyfriend... http://www.todaysalternativenews.com/index.php?event=link,150&values[0]=&values[1]=2259

* susan estrich is totally spooky

* speaking of rumsfeld - that "old rumsfeld" thing was kinda funny - of course, he wasnt freestylin' - it came straight from the office of luntz - rumsfeld set up the joke himself.

* im still trying to work out blinky's political calculation wrt socsec. he's got one war already, and another one or more on the way, yet he spends all his days lying to people about socsec in tinhall meetings, in a 'battle' that looks almost unwinnable. odd.

* am watching a repeat of bigdayout05 - introducing Sabotage, mikeD from beasties says 'ok - now u can say anything u want - whats that u say? 'fuck georgebush'?' sweet. ftr, if i come across as a bushhater - its actually way more that i hate the entire egadministration - even tho its easier to truncate that as 'blinky' sometimes

* when i was younger i despised willie loman

* btw - i mentioned recently that i had blogged 1,112,771 words - turns out that number is wrong. the number hasnt changed since i mentioned it - so blogger obviously cant count.
