* conyers: "Equally repugnant is the fact that the REAL ID bill waives all federal, state and local laws to build immigration barriers and fences. This tramples laws protecting a range of rights, including Native American burial rights and laws protecting environmental degradation. The new law goes so far as to waive labor and even criminal laws. We have to ask ourselves whether rapid construction of these security barriers are worth the precedent of throwing our entire legal system out the window. " LINK
* ""It's disturbing that Howard Dean would plot to use the life of Terri Schiavo for political gain," (Republican National Committee spokeswoman Tracey) Schmitt said Saturday. "This demonstrates a troubling lack of sensitivity and one would hope that Democrat leaders in Congress would reject such a strategy." LINK
* robert reich reckons that jeb will run in 08 - hardtalk interview here
* " In the four years after Michael Schiavo won the right to remove his wife's feeding tube, the state's social welfare agency investigated 89 complaints of abuse but never found that he or anybody else harmed Terri Schiavo, *records released late Friday* show." LINK
its so appalling that this was released on a friday night... so appalling. stoopid dcf
* meanwhile - heres the vid of fox dealing with the schiavo findings . appalling. they basically go thru each of the charges, while trying not to mention that all of them are false.
* given that the nyc-cops were busted lying and doctoring evidence, CI points to this from democracynow at the time of the nycrnc protests. you might remember at the time of the protests, (and on election day) i suggested that you take your cameras... if u still have any footage, take a look at it, and think about sending it to I-Witness Video if u think it might be helpful to them
* "Curiously, the Justice Department allowed Mr. Rudolph to plead guilty and avoid the death sentence that in other circumstances the feds have been quite energetic in pursuing. The official explanation was that a trial and a death sentence would have made a "martyr" of this man.... Maybe the prosecutors thought they couldn't get him and so opted for an easy plea. But there are powerful people for whom the spectacle of an unrepentant murderer for the unborn, a clean-cut movie star handsome Christian terrorist, posed political problems. Better to defend life in the abstract, keep the focus on the enemy at the gates and keep skeletons like Eric Rudolph locked up in the closet." LINK
* the AP tries to make a case (out of fresh air) that the dems are in trouble on socsec. i hate the AP. LINK
update: josh falls for it LINK
* in a classic bit of wingnuttery, stephanopolous asked georgewill about the tanking stockmkts - Will replied that mkts go up and down, and he showed a graphic to show that the mkt didnt move (net) from 1965 to 1982 - so theres no reason to worry. it was then pointed out to him that that is a good reason not to do the private accounts thing with socsec, to which he replied "the world changed in 1982".
if only they had the slightest bit of integrity - intellectual or moral - it'd be easier not to hate them. id take one or the other: intellectual or moral

* carl pope from the sierra club has a blog: "Things in Washington are at a tipping point, and with public opinion swinging sharply against Congress and the President, that gives us a much stronger hand in trying to block bad proposals than we had imagined only two months ago -- but we still have nowhere near the political strength we need to move positive proposals forward at the Federal level." LINK
* blondesense takes a trip around the creationist theme parks around the country: Dinosaur Adventure Land offers this: "You can believe that you came from a rock, or you can believe that a loving God created you for a purpose." LINK
