DELAY
* "As one influential House Democrat put it, "DeLay did for us something we could never accomplish ourselves. He made himself a household name."" LINK

* " DeLay: I think that (the Minutemen are) providing an excellent service. It's no different than neighborhood-watch programs and I appreciate them doing it, as long as they can do it safely and don't get involved and do it the way they seem to be doing it, and that's just identifying people for the Border Patrol to come pick up." LINK

* "But, the theme of the day across the (Sunday TV) shows was that it is time for Delay to confront these charges by talking directly to the electorate, either through a news conference or, as Russert suggested, an hour on Meet the Press. " LINK

* frank rich: "In the DeLay story almost every player has ostentatious religious trappings, starting with the House majority leader himself. His efforts to play God with Terri Schiavo were preceded by crusades like blaming the teaching of evolution for school shootings and raising money for the Traditional Values Coalition's campaign to save America from the "war on Christianity." Mr. DeLay's chief of staff was his pastor, and, according to Time magazine, organized daily prayer sessions in their office. Today this holy man, Ed Buckham, is a lobbyist implicated in another DeLay junket to South Korea." LINK

* "Though they have a full and ambitious legislative agenda, starting with President Bush's call for Social Security reform, "every meeting we have is now a meeting about Tom DeLay," complains a Republican aide." LINK

* nyt ed: "(DeLay) appears to be confused about the difference between a legislative majority won in an election and total control held indefinitely." or maybe he knows that the judiciary is toast and they can keep stealing elections till the cows come home "this is the man who once was reported to have declared upon being stopped from lighting a cigar in a government-owned building, "I am the federal government." The remark now seems prophetic." LINK

* last week i joked that chris wallace would be mean to cornyn about his 'kill the judges' comment. actually, ive just seen the video, and wallace wasnt as forgiving as id expected. btw - cornyn described his statements as 'inartful' which is the same word that DeLay used this past week...
