pass laws to stop their desire

BOLTON STUFF
* "Conservative hawks backing John Bolton as the next US ambassador to the United Nations are looking forward to their champion taking on North Korea and Iran in the Security Council as the Bush administration takes the next steps to deal with their nuclear programmes.
With Iran threatening to end its voluntary suspension of its nuclear fuel cycle programme and North Korea refusing to return to negotiations in Beijing, it is possible that Mr Bolton will arrive at the UN at the same time as the two issues come to the Security Council.
Mr Gaffney said Mr Bolton would be “a formidable guy pushing for a very hard line” at the UN. “The days of delusion of the possibility of sweet-talking these rogue regimes out of their nuclear ambitions are at an end.”" LINK
goog fucking grief. these people will stop at nuthing. gaffney is evil.

* "Barbara Boxer has told RAW STORY she will not lift a hold on Bush UN nominee John Bolton until she gets all documents Democrats requested with regard to the nominee... Boxer's hold will likely delay a full Senate vote on Bolton's nomination until the end of May... "All options are on the table, including a filibuster," she added." LINK

* clemons: " let me assure all players that ever more revelations on Bolton misjudgments in his last position as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security -- and during other points in his career -- are on their way." LINK

FILIBUSTER STUFF
* Tony Perkins is batshit crazy - which is fine as it goes - by why the fuck does WaPo give him op-ed space the week before the filibuster showdown (or ever)? seriously. its bad enuff that timrussert stacks his show every week with a bunch of fetusfreaks - but this is just ridiculous. i'll offer just one snippet: 'just about any religious person would hold (that) the Bible is an "absolute authority" for human conduct' LINK

* "Senator Rick Santorum, Republican of Pennsylvania, said Senate minorities had previously restrained themselves from using the filibuster to block nominees with majority support. "Senator Reid has refused to do that," Mr. Santorum said. "Now we are forced to do something that societies often do when people can't control their desires. We have to pass laws to stop their desires."" LINK
such is the level of logic these days... we are in for a helluva week.

* " “There is a reason George W. Bush was elected to serve as president of the United States,” Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) said on Thursday. “It’s because the majority of Americans trusted him to nominate judges.”" LINK

* "In this talking points memo, circulated today by the Republican leadership in the House, #1 of the "Top Five Message Points" is "1. Do not refer to the "nuclear option" -- it should be called the constitutional option."" LINK

ELECTION STUFF
* "Mitofsky said the 2004 (exitpoll) problems could have been caused by several factors:
_haphazard choice of voters to interview
_lengthy questionnaires
_legal restrictions that kept exit poll interviewers 50 feet or more from voting locations
_hiring of too many young interviewers
_inadequate monitoring of interviewers"
LINK

* the thing about the election04 is that all the errors went to blinky, as we all know. the repugs will have to rectify this next time - its surprising they didnt think of it last time. next time there'll be a gazillion complaints from redheads, regardless of fact.

* gorevidal and alfranken on maher - talking about the election and iraq and west and hager and thememo LINK

OTHER STUFF
* btw, given conyers sterling efforts everywhere, up-to-and-including his latest war-crimes efforts wrt torture (including his priceless smackdown of gonzales - in a lterr to gonzales), its not difficult to imagine that he has his sights on other war-crimes and crimes of treason...

* Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Party, said yesterday that the US House majority leader, Tom DeLay, ''ought to go back to Houston where he can serve his jail sentence," referring to allegations of unethical conduct against the Republican leader." LINK
