re: traction

from g:
""FBI: Detainees allege Quran abuse" LINK

Looks like the retraction's losing traction...

In a related story, Newsweek demanded a retraction of the Whitehouse's retraction demands, and asked that Bush do everything in his power to undu the damage he caused to Arab/US relations, and to the credibility of the mainstream media...."

i couldnt have said it better myself.

i still cant reverse-engineer this newsweek story. theyve simply made themselves look stupid. it was such a silly phrase to pull out of nowhere to kick up a stink about. they must have known that 'the truth' was already out there - not that they have any shame or anything. they kept turning up the rhetoric, even when the basis of the story was accurate (and they were incriminated in the 'inaccurate' part of the story)

were they simply trying to cut the media off at the legs? were they creating a precedent so that they can get any further anonymous leaks retracted? were they simply 'reacting' to imran khan's words? if so, then why? there must be some logic there.

confused.
