denial and deception

* digby writes a tasty post about blinky lying about the UN inspectors in iraq and the big lie and how reporters really failed to do their job.

nothing new there particularly, but he did point to blinkys speech 48 hours before the invasion, which is worth reading again. i particularly liked this para:

And all Iraqi military and civilian personnel should listen carefully to this warning. In any conflict, your fate will depend on your action. Do not destroy oil wells, a source of wealth that belongs to the Iraqi people. Do not obey any command to use weapons of mass destruction against anyone, including the Iraqi people. War crimes will be prosecuted. War criminals will be punished. And it will be no defense to say, "I was just following orders."

i particularly like the banner used at the top of blinky's speech. below is a screen grab from whitehouse.gov from march17, 2003.

(i think we should spread the pic around, it would go great with the dsm crowd)

update: go here to see my take on karl rove's interview on hardball where he discusses the dsm, and surprisingly, tells lies in the process.
