suiciders r us

some quick london stories:

* "The British government has ruled out any public inquiry into how the London plot went undetected" (link)

* "Last night it emerged the bombers bought their rucksacks in Blacks camping shop in Leeds city centre. The retailer told Channel 4 News it would no longer stock that type of rucksack." (link)
make.it.stop.

* "At the Metropolitan Police's casualty bureau in Hendon, north London, the call was one of thousands of others that had arrived that day. An officer took down (busbomba) Hasib's details: 6ft 2ins tall, heavy build, wearing a casual jacket and jeans." (link)
somehow the 'distinctive shirt' part of the story has been scrubbed. we were originally told that his distinctive shirt had been found amongst the bus debris.

* oops - watch the spin: "The body met Hussain's description, which had been sent out from Hendon. Officers stepped up the line of inquiry. The task now would be to track his movements back, hoping that his distinctive blue jacket would reveal his presence." (link)
the jacket was anything but distinctive.

* "Within minutes, three 10lb bombs had ripped through the tube network and just over an hour later, Hussain blew himself up in Tavistock Square." presence." (link)
can someone explain to me how the '10lb' thingy is a constant? we've had the story switch from bathroom-bombs to militaary-bombs and back again - yet somehow the 10lb bit hasnt changed... i assume that you judge the size of the bombs once you know the type of bomb and the havoc wreaked - yet somehow these explosives are always 10 pounds. anyone?

* "Carrying their bombs on their backs, they then caught the 7:20am Thameslink train to King's Cross." (link)
even i know they didnt catch the 7.20 train - why are they lying? lets watch to see if this story becomes the official version.

* "Amid the bloodstained wreckage of the Stagecoach bus, they recovered one particularly disfigured body in which the force of the explosion had led to decapitation.
None of the other victims, it is understood, had met such an end. The injuries were noted: suicide bombers are often decapitated by the force of the explosives they strap to their bodies." link
except we know that he wasnt wearing a suicide belt. would decapitation occur if he had the bag by his side?

* "Jermaine Lindsay bought innocent designer perfumes and aftershaves as a deadly mix for the London gang's home-made devices, police fear." (link)
you'll have to read this story yourself - i cant mock it sufficiently. apparently jpg has more alcohol than cheap perfume. or vodka. or something.

* "At the weekend, reports said a further nine bombs had been found in a car, thought to be belong to one of the bombers, left parked at Luton railway station." (link)
i guess they forgot to look inside the car last week - we saw the same thing in madrid (ftr, this car was the one with week-long pre-paid parking)

* "More than a week of painstaking forensic reconstruction of the blast sites has failed to yield any evidence of timing devices being attached to the four bombs that killed 56 people.
The finding has left detectives all but certain that the men were suicide bombers and fully intended to take their own lives in the course of murdering as many members of the public as possible." (link)
apparently there was not a single person anywhere near the bombers who actually had a cell-phone. even i know that cell-phones have alarm clocks.
