tube murder

* the Times (london) writes a scathing article/commentary about how appalling the media is at not cleaning up all the stupid lies they tell along the way. it ends thusly (but you'll have to read the rest: "From a certain point of view, the journalist, the politician, the police chief and the terrorist can be seen as locked in a macabre waltz of the mind, no less distorting for being unconscious. We should not to join that dance." (source) (via here)

* "an innocent Tube driver today found himself with a police gun at his head during the incident in Stockwell station in which a suspect was shot dead." (source)
this story is getting weirder. (from here)

* theres a detailed timeline by The Times of the murdered guy's last 30 mins here (via here)
"The bus journey was slow, as on any other Friday morning, but Mr Menezes seemed to be in no hurry. He was heading to Willesden Green to fix an alarm system. When it was obvious that he was getting off at the stop nearest Stockwell Tube station, the team on the bus alerted a three-man team of marksmen to move in.

As Mr Menezes waited to cross the busy main road, the decision was taken at Scotland Yard that he must not be allowed to get to the platform.
"
so, apparently, there were guys on the bus *and* guys waiting at the station. apparently they let him cross the road and into the station before chasing him.
"By far the most controversial claim comes from a number of witnesses who have cast doubt on police statements that they shouted a warning or identified themselves to the suspect before opening fire."
that would indeed be controversial.
"Less than a minute later Mr Menezes was pinned to the floor of the carriage by two men while a third officer fired five shots into the base of his skull."
'pinned to the floor' - hmmmm. if they thought he was a terrorist, it was very brave of them to pin him. if they thought he was a terrorist, they apparently didnt want to interrogate him.
for some reason, the Times decided to finish off the article by reiterating "Again, Mr Ruston says that no verbal warning was given."

why did they murder this guy? i dont have a clue. he was an electrician - some are speculating that it is related to the fact that the 7/7 bombings were originally thought to be power-related. i dont know what to think.
