fwiw, here's the lede:
The Sept. 11 commission was warned by a uniformed military officer 10 days before issuing its final report that the account would be incomplete without reference to what he described as a secret military operation that by the summer of 2000 had identified as a potential threat the member of Al Qaeda who would lead the attacks more than a year later
its seems this was a separate reference to the stuff weldon was talking about earlier in the week. it also seems that the commission staff lied earlier when they said they hadnt been told.
in the meantime, the DIA (DOD?) are saying "Able Danger? we dont have any records of that program" etc etc.
i still dont have a fucking clue what is going on.
weldon is on record making these same claims back in 2002, and he said he was told about it in the months after 911. he's also certifiably insane
theres a reason why the story is making waves now - i just dont have a clue what is going on. im nervous though.
theres a whole bunch of stuff going on that is making me nervous at the moment. it seems as though there is disinformation being thrown around left, right, and center - im tempted to think it isnt by accident.
bush is on holidays for no credible reason - it seems difficult to argue that he is impervious or arrogant or some such. his ratings are through the floor, and iraq is a disaster and talk of impeachment is in the air. surely going on holidays for 5 weeks sends a bad signal.
we've got a 4-star general being sacked for a consensual hetero relationship - apparently the first time ever that someone so senior has been dismissed for disciplinary reasons (when everyone is falling upwards).
we've got many world leaders beating up on iran for doing what they are legally allowed to do under the NPT - and all of a sudden blinky is trying to portray himself as the voice of reason. 'we hope that maybe iran might come back to the table and if they dont then maybe there might have to be sanctions or something' - even while rumsfeld screams that iran is directly involved in bombing iraq.
we've got terrorists getting on planes with bombs that are ready to trigger and the media ignores it and the guy gets $10,000 bail.
we've got indictments everywhere - aipac, and abramoff, and the fitzgerald ones cant be far away.
we've got rumsfeld daring to announce freedom marches on 911
we've got cheney talking about nuking iran
we've got chertoff preparing to throw posse comitatus where the koran usually goes.
we've got zogby delaying their question about impeachment - and asking a whole bunch of other fucked up questions - including should we nuke mecca? should we have a draft? and should we add 43 (or someone else) to mount rushmore?
anyway - this is just a random bunch of stuff thats going on - im not really making any specific point. and its not the first time ive been really nervous. but im nervous. and im not necessarily nervous about stuff thats going on - but more because there seems to be a lot of disinformation intentionally being sent out to cloud the situation. its not necessarily that i think that where theres smoke, theres fire - but rather, theres just a lot of smoke - where theres smokescreen, theres fire
