1500 police

* billmon: "Either way, though, you have to wonder if even the destruction of New Orleans will be enough to spur a dramatic change in policy, given the ideological fanaticism and sheer mindless greed of the troglodytes currently in power.
The real lesson of Katrina, though, is that the scenes we've been watching in New Orleans could be repeated in many other places in the decades ahead, if the worst-case scenarios generated by the global climate change models become realities."

* atrios: "Sean Hannity has now included the Reverend Fred Phelps as part of the "anti-war left." A guy who thinks that soldiers are killed in Iraq as God's punishment for homosexuality? A liberal!"

* i think i just heard Blinky saying that "america will be better for it" (the hurricane)

* theres something totally racist about the media coverage of the hurricane

* why are they rushing 1500 police onto the streets to stop looting? thats the entire police force! is looting really a problem right now? they are stopping the search and rescue to stop the looting - wtf? not only is it stoopid, its also gotta be unsuccessful - the police cant even talk to each other. so what if people steal a fucking tv? the shops will have to write *everything* off *regardless*
