Kayne West on the beeb

* "So, just to recap, Brown had no experience whatsoever in emergency management. He was fired from his last job for incompetence. He was hired because he was the new director's college roommate. And after the director -- who himself got the job because he was a political fixer for the president -- left, he became top dog." (link)

* "Lousiana Gov. Blanco accepted an offer of state National Guard troops from New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson on Sunday, just before the storm hit. But the paperwork from Washington, allowing the troops to deploy, didn't come until Thursday." (link)

* "A visibly angry Mayor Daley said the city had offered emergency, medical and technical help to the federal government as early as Sunday to assist people in the areas stricken by Hurricane Katrina, but as of Friday, the only things the feds said they wanted was a single tank truck..." (link)

* blinky just claimed that the area in trouble from the hurricane is 'the size of great britain' - isnt that an odd reference?

* " A reporter asked him why Chertoff couldn't have anticipated both (the hurricane and the levee breaking) and Chertoff just responded: That's the kind of question which in court the judge usually sustains the objection to. It's called argumentative. But nevertheless...you know... " (link)
thats the funniest thing ive heard in a long time, participle dangling not withstanding. his using a legal defense??? wtf?

* further to my comments about the absurdity that nagin's comments were bleeped on the american tv channels when he said the naughty naughty words: "They don't have a clue what's going on down here. They flew down here one time two days after the doggone event was over, with TV cameras, AP reporters, all kind of goddamn -- excuse my French everybody in America -- but I'm pissed." - anyway, just as a juxtaposition, i was just watching the news on basic cable, and they had an ad break for some movie, middle of the afternoon on a sunday, and they showed a clip of some woman saying "you've gotta get your shit together" - can you imagine that in the US? wont someone think of the australian children??? god is gonna send us a hurricane or something. fukk the FEC.

* greg mitchell has a great piece at E&P about the entire administration being awol during the hurricane: "This is not mere incompetence, but dereliction of duty. The press should call it by its proper name." he calls it "'My Pet Goat' -- The Sequel" - the odd thing tho is that he says "This time, during a catastrophe, the president did not merely dither for seven minutes, but for three days, and his top advisors followed suit." - bill maher made the same reference the other day - im not sure where this came from - the reality is that blinky stayed at the school doing photo-ops for 27 minutes.

* "Half the houses in America are heated with natural gas, which is now clocking in at $12 a unit (1000 cubic feet). It was $3 a unit in 2003. It could go to $16. Connect the dots." (link)

* yesterday i mentioned that idiot david brooks slammed blinky - heres the vid
a snippet: " I’m angry at the guy, and maybe it’ll pass for me, but a lot of people, and a lot of Republicans, uh, are furious right now."

* driftglass has more on brooks: "And, as my mother always told me, never rake leaves in a glue-suit during a tornado, never get involved in a land war in Asia, and do not interrupt David Brooks while he is having what looks an awful lot like a Walter Cronkite/Tet Epiphany."
go read.

* wow - the beeb just played the Kayne West clip where he said "Blinky doesnt care about black people" - even cooler is that on sundays, the beeb often has only 5 minutes news headlines (and they show something else for the rest of the hour) - and the Kayne West clip made it into the headlines bit (where space is obviously short) - awesome!

* for those of you looking for the kanye video - its here
