Oblivious, in denial, dangerous

* some wag over in xymphora's comments said: "Bush has 3 vacations left...Will you and your family survive?"

* "Daddy isn't supposed to snivel about how the locals didn't do their job. Daddy whining about "the blame game" makes the kids feel like Daddy still isn't in charge and doesn't know what he's doing. And he should not be making excuses for his idiot cronies or relying on politesse and bureaucratic snafus to explain why he was late when the crisis hit. Daddy isn't supposed to be late." (link)

* will arnie veto the gay marriage bill? id have to think the answer is 'yes'. lets hope not. i need some light on these dark daze.

* "(Pelosi) related that she had urged Bush at the White House on Tuesday to fire Michael Brown.
"He said 'Why would I do that?'" Pelosi said.
"'I said because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said 'What didn't go right?'"
''Oblivious, in denial, dangerous,'' she added." (link)

* this just in from adam - back in 98/99, the enviro section of Army Corps of Engineers (along with the EPA, the Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service) wanted to slow down casino development on Mississippi's Gulf Coast until enviro impact statements could be completed. Trent Lott, in the pocket of the gambling industry, intervened, rammed through the approvals, and "trigger(ed) an Army inspector general investigation of Davis (the guy at the Army Corps of Engineers)... Davis was cleared of wrongdoing, but not before he was removed from all Gulf Coast development issues."
Trent Lott's home was demolished last week.

* one of my favourite topics: the august army recruiting numbers will be released (probably) on monday. will the recruiters be running around the country trying to sign up the nola diaspora?

* "Kadafi's point man for dealing with Washington is his head of foreign intelligence, who is banned from entering the U.S. because of his suspected involvement in terrorist acts, including the Lockerbie bombing. He also is suspected of taking part in a plot to kill Saudi Arabia's ruler." (link)

* (remember this from a couple of weeks ago: "A FORMER Scottish police chief has given lawyers a signed statement claiming that key evidence in the Lockerbie bombing trial was fabricated.")
