Waiting for a bLeader

* oreilly: 'Black people chose not to leave neworleans so that they could stay behind and loot'

* xymphora: "All the ironies and all the contradictions brought to the United States by the Bush Administration have come together in the perfect storm of Katrina:"
you'll have to go read to get the list of 8.

* "Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez offered to send food and fuel to the United States after the powerful Hurricane Katrina pummeled the US south, ravaging US crude production.
The leftist leader, a frequent critic of the United States and a target himself of US disapproval, said Venezuela could send aid workers with drinking water, food and fuel to US communities hit by the hurricane.
"We place at the disposition of the people of the United States in the event of shortages -- we have drinking water, food, we can provide fuel," Chavez told reporters." (link)
awesome.

* wow - cnni are slamming bush and his friends about the hurricane and all associated. by 2 minutes after the hour they are repeatedly saying that "people are asking whether the fedgovt had done enough" etc etc. ABC is doing the same thing in the live interview with him. awesome. awesome. i dunno who the interviewer was - some woman.
it'd be funny (but also sad) if something that was ostensibly an 'act of god' that finally turned people against both him *and* the war. unfortunately, the dems are still in hiding.

* Fox seems to have started calling the Hurricane a "storm" for some reason - they are labelling their coverage "Storm's Impact" - and its permeating the speech as well

* blinky said that its not his fault that people are dying - no-one knew that neworleans would get wet, or something. asshole. reminds me of condi: 'no-one imagined people could fly planes into buildings'

* oh great - chertoff is kicking off 'national emergency preparedness month'. get duct tape.

* nyt ed: "Waiting for a Leader: George W. Bush gave one of the worst speeches of his life yesterday, especially given the level of national distress and the need for words of consolation and wisdom."

If you haven't already done so, check out the video of Blinky's press release at:

whitehouse.gov

The speech is 8 minutes long and he spends 3 of those eight minutes talking about getting the gulf coast oil refining industry back on track. Presumably, if we keep the price of gasoline low enough, Floridian water sport enthusiasts will be able to jet ski into the bayous and rescue all those folk trapped by Katrina's rage.

SM - Blinky truly is an unmitigated disaster. if they keep the price of gas low for another decade or say, we'll be able to jetski from the bayou to ANWR.
