* "Grover G. Norquist, who described himself as a friend and a work contact (of Susan B. Ralston), said he was not aware that she had even testified." (link)
thats categorically absurd. even i knew that she had testified - why is Norquist lying?
* digby: "Roberts is obviously a very, very smart lawyer. He talked circles around everybody on the committee today. There is no doubt in my mind that he will craft beautifully reasoned, elegant decisions that will result in as much destruction of the last 75 years of social and economic progress as he can politically get away with." (link)
Digby also makes the point (or reiterates somerby's point) that its absurd that Roberts cant answer questions about Roe etc - they put forward the argument that it might prejudice them in the future - but the views of all the other scotus judges on Roe (and other issues) are out in the open - so Roberts' argument doesnt make any sense.
* "Two associates of U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay were charged Tuesday with two additional felony charges of violating Texas election law and criminal conspiracy to violate election law for their role in the 2002 legislative races.
The indictment is the seventh this month from a Travis County grand jury investigating the use of corporate money in the campaigns that gave Republicans control of the Texas House." (link)
* "Much of the American press has reported the Tal Afar campaign as a strike by the new Iraqi Army, supported by US troops, against foreign infiltrators in the largely Turkmen city of 200,000.
As Jonathan Finer makes clear in the Washington Post, however, the operation looks different if we know some details. The "Iraqi Army" leading the assault turns out to be mainly the Peshmerga or Kurdish ethnic militia. Along for the ride are local Turkmen Shiites who are being used as informers and for the purpose of identifying Sunni Turkmen they think are involved in the guerrilla movement" (link)
