* mark kleiman argues that either cocaine and alcohol should be legal, or they should both be banned. if we opt for the former, i want an ounce or two of blow for the party when the fitzgerald indictments are handed down. if we move to the latter, ive got 2 bottles of champagne in the fridge, and no law enforcement officer will deprive me of that pleasure - hopefully fitzgerald will read out the indictments live on tv - one by one - and we can take a sip for every indictment. and hopefully, the 2 bottles wont last till the end of his list.
* speaking of drugs, if you google "meth junkie", i'm the number1 'hit'. google is weird.
* harry shearer: "After all, Osama declared war on us. But what if Al Capone had declared "war" on the feds: was it incumbent on them to take him up on it? Didn't we fall into a trap by saying to a dangerous, but radically weaker "power", okay, you're on, it's war?" (link)
* juancole: "The British narrative of problems with Shiite militias in Basra and the possible link to Iran still makes no sense to me. I think it is very difficult (and perhaps embarrassing) for the US and Britain to admit to themselves that significant numbers of local Iraqis just don't want them there, so they keep seeking an explanation for anti-Coalition violence in foreign influence." (link)
derrr. the same has been true for 2 years!
* " Iraq will buy one million tons of U.S. wheat in the next few days under a policy that puts the government rather than the suppliers in charge of shipping the cargo, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Chalabi said on Sunday.
The move marks the first time that Australia lost a major deal in Iraq after dominating the market for years. U.S. and Australian suppliers shared a 1.2 million ton Iraqi tender that was awarded two months ago" (link)
congratulations, john howard. who are your friends?
* "Louis Beres, longtime chairman of the Christian Coalition of Oregon, had molested three female family members when they were pre-teens" (link)
americablog: "There ought to be a constitutional amendment to stop Christian conservative activists from getting married, adopting kids, or at the very least can we please ban heterosexual men from the priesthood?" (link)
i cant wait for oreilly to continue his crusade about kiddy molestors.
