PDB, september 21, 2001: "No alqaeda/saddam link"

* "Edwin Chen's story in the Los Angeles Times has a great headline: "Using Olive Branch, Cheney Lashes Foes."" (link)

* stupid bumiller writes another mash note to Blinky - detailing marital difficulties between cheney & blinky... its pretty funny. she notes: "In short, Mr. Bush is said to be upset with Mr. Cheney because the vice president promised a fast, rosy finish to the war in Iraq, now a two-and-a-half-year-old conflict, and because of the indictment of the vice president's top aide in a case that has focused on alleged efforts to discredit a war critic."

* meanwhile: "Mary Matalin, an informal Cheney adviser, said what has hurt Bush is not Cheney but rather the president's failure to respond to allegations that he lied about Iraq's weapons." (link)

* "Although the United States has not found any stockpiles of banned weapons in Iraq, Cheney said, "I repeat that we never had the burden of proof; Saddam Hussein did."" (link)
okey dokes - so they can present saddams 12000 page "we have disarmed" document.

* richard cohen " It is incredible to me that Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about sex, but nobody -- that's nobody -- in the entire Bush administration has been fired, not to mention impeached, for this shedding of American blood. Cheney, a man of ugly intolerance for dissent, should have been the first to go. His has been a miserable, dishonest performance -- which he continues to this day." (link)

* "Ten days after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, President Bush was told in a highly classified briefing that the U.S. intelligence community had no evidence linking the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein to the attacks and that there was scant credible evidence that Iraq had any significant collaborative ties with Al Qaeda, according to government records and current and former officials with firsthand knowledge of the matter."
