* "A "trophy" video appearing to show security guards in Baghdad randomly shooting Iraqi civilians has sparked two investigations after it was posted on the internet, the Sunday Telegraph can reveal.
The video has sparked concern that private security companies, which are not subject to any form of regulation either in Britain or in Iraq, could be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Iraqis." (link)
* c&l have the video
* imagine if saddam is found 'not-guilty'
* laura rozen has a new name for the 30% who still like Blinky: "Regime dead enders, if you will."
* redhedd, discussing the new TIME reporter getting a phonecall from Fitz: "If I were Rove right now, I'd be shaking in my shoes, because Fitz doesn't play softball. " (link)
she's an attorney. i havent been able to get my head around why she might have been called up - or what it means.
* jane hamsher has a good catch: "It's also notable that Woodward was evidently cushy enough with Viveca to give her an interview he would not give his fellow reporters at the WaPo following the acknowledgment that he was the first journalist known to have had Valerie Plame's identity leaked to him." (link)
t is indeed. you might remember me obsessing over that interview for a day.
* and swopa makes a good point: "Plame mystery buffs can knock themselves out trying to figure out how it fits into Justice Department guidelines -- which state that reporters should only be pursued as witnesses in last-resort situations where their testimony is crucial to determining guilt or innocence." (link)
* and the other interesting thing is that TIME arent gonna fight the subpoena - i wonder if its their decision or hers - and whether it could be reasonably presumed to fall under the Cooper case.
* i mentioned a while back that im trying to get saddams 8000 redacted pages unredacted. i emailed the national security archive a while back but havent heard from them. ive also been trying to work through afterdowningstreet - david swanson has some contacts there. in any case, i also emailed michael petrelis today. he has been doing some foia work - he recently discovered that none of the news companies were doing any foia's. i wonder if he had to file an foia claim to do that! in any case, hopefully he can help me out. ive been meaning to ask pogo as well - but they say on their site that they dont do any 'national security' work - altho i read today that they are involved with sibel - so i will email them.
the interesting things about those redacted pages, most particularly, are
a) why were they redacted
b) did same exopnerate himself?
c) who read the documents?
