* "A new Pew Institute poll helpfully reminds us not to take U.S. public opionion about foreign affairs too seriously. When asked whether certain countries posessed nuclear weapons, nearly a third said that Libya does. More people--55 percent--believe Iran has nuclear weapons than think Great Britain (52 percent) or France (38 percent) does. Only 48 percent got Israel right. And just over one-fifth didn't know or weren't sure about Russia--Russia! Which has some 20,000 nukes. Yeesh." (link)
* " Mort Kondracke has been around Washington forever, and is anything but a sensationalist. So it's pretty striking to see his fairly serious speculation (subscription required) about whether Democrats might try to impeach George W. Bush if they win back the Congress in 2006. He even thinks John Kerry's been floating an impeachment trial balloon" (link)
* "British-trained police operating in Basra have tortured at least two civilians to death with electric drills, The Independent on Sunday can reveal... Ministry of Defence sources privately confirm that the two SAS soldiers seized and held in Jamiyat in September were investigating allegations of police torture prompted by the discovery of the bodies." lol - thats the gazillionth 'explanation', off-record, of course. it doesnt quite explain why they had a car-load of explosives.
* "When the air and ground operation wound down in mid-September, nearly 200 insurgents had been killed and close to 1,000 detained, the military said at the time. But interrogations and other analyses carried out in recent weeks showed that none of those captured was from outside Iraq. According to McMaster's staff, the 3rd Armored Cavalry last detained a foreign fighter in June." (link)
* AP: "BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. forces sealed off a house in the northern city of Mosul where eight suspected al-Qaida members died in a gunfight -- some by their own hand to avoid capture. A U.S. official said Sunday that efforts were under way to determine if terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was among the dead." (link)

What is ipsos' reason? Was one given?
apparently they said "they can't appear to have an agenda"
incredible, huh?
this after they already asked the question... so frustrating.
i havent decided how to deal with it. i think i'll approach them again, separate to afterdowningstreet and see what they say...
any other ideas?
Isn't their "agenda" to ask questions someone pays them to ask?
its amazing, no?
you'd think that they'd at least be consistent. if their argument was legitimate, they wouldnt have asked the question in the first place...
im still trying to get them onside, i'll keep you informed, of course.
meanwhile, it looks as though zogby are still willing to ask the question for us.
