america is a fucking banana republic.

* glenn greenwald has another terrific post up on the legal justifications in re snoopgate.

* fox has a new special coming out. it's called "Can we Live Without God?"

* the NYT has an editorial called: "Mr. Cheney's Imperial Presidency"

* from a wapo 'live online' chat: "Jim VandeHei: I don't know of anyone with any power seriously weighing the impeachment of Bush. I know some liberals are trying to pressure papers, including mine, to poll on the topic and write about it, but it is not a serious topic among Democrats in Washington." (link)

* "The Bush administration requested, and Congress rejected, war-making authority "in the United States" in negotiations over the joint resolution passed days after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to an opinion article by former Senate majority leader Thomas A. Daschle (D-S.D.) in today's Washington Post." (link)

* ive been meaning to comment on this element of snoopgate from the original risen article:
“Before the 2004 election, the official said, some NSA personnel worried that the program might come under scrutiny by congressional or criminal investigators if Senator John Kerry, the Democratic nominee, was elected president.”
this is quite an incredible statement - apparently they didnt mind doing criminal things under Bush until they could see the threat that there might be another president. america is a fucking banana republic. here's a tip for everyone doing something illegal on Blinky's orders: Blinky wont be president in 3 years time, at the most. Stop what you are doing, and report it.
