cia agents are not happy

* william arkin makes the point that the only reason we are getting leaks about the horrible things that are going on is because cia agents are not happy and are leaking the info:
" I know that many supporters of the Bush administration and the war on terrorism think this is the media's fault, but the truth is that revelations about questionable practices and standards are being leaked, and "secrets" are being compromised by dozens of intelligence and special operations officers and officials who are motivated by their concern for the growing incompatibilities between the war on terrorism and American values."
he then says:
"The problem for America is that we seem stuck in habits and practices in which we only find out about all of this after the damage is already done."
...and thats the saddest thing. after the damage is already done...

i dont get as excited as others when i hear larry wilkerson in two thousand and fucking five talking about a cabal which hijacked the country. thats fucking brave! i appreciate it of course - but where the fuck have the been these past 3 years? i have the same qualm with joe wilson making a noise after the invasion. and colin powell can kiss my ass. if he's lucky.

on the other hand - the even more remarkable thing is that so few insiders have come out of the woodwork - even now. all of the stuff that is "coming out" now from these 'insiders' is exactly the same stuff that we've been saying since before the fucking invasion! its a weird set of circumstances - we were right in advance, and we were outraged at the time because it was obvious from the facts that we were right - and now we are 3 years later and we are somehow lauding people like wilkerson for 'being brave and outspoken' - and even worse than that, he really is 'brave' compared to the hundreds of others who know all the same things but still keep their mouths shut. how many officials/insiders have spoken out? a dozen? across the entire planet? where the fuck is everyone else? apparently the best we can hope for is for someone to revive a 12 month-old memo about bush trying to invade qatar and brave blair talking bush out of it?

c'mon people. there were millions of us who knew the invasion was a lie before the shock-n-awe campaign began - and the most we can find is literally jsut a handful of peripheral-insiders amongst the hundreds who even dare whisper that the whole fucking invasion was predicated on lies.

reality continues to astound me. is *everyone* so craven?

in plamegate we've seen how even journalists are willing to keep silent so that they dont cause trouble (woodward, v. novak) - and journos are paid to tell stories. so, at least i can kinda understand how some people dont wanna come out and tell their stories - but surely someone, somewhere inside the govt has a smoking gun and a conscience - your time is running out
