"MR. McCLELLAN: I will tell you -- to give you an accurate picture of what took place in that meeting -- the President talked about how he wanted to hear from each of these leaders, that he valued their advice and ideas."there's something perverse in blinky's purported sense of history. some have argued that this photo-op was for the history books, but i dont think that is accurate. we must remember that campaigning is the only thing these people know. this photo-op wasn't about history, per se, it was about brainwashing the current electorate into thinking that these clowns are looking to history. they are saying 'even if it looks like we are fucking up today, we are smarter than you, and there's not a future historian amongst us who would disagree.
thats how desperate the radministration is - their appeal to logic is that someone will approve - but we dont know them yet. some indeterminate person in the future will exonerate all their crimes - but it isnt an appeal to the future as they claim, their argument is presented to all of us:
"nothing any smarmy journalist or ivory-tower smart person tells you is true. today's smart people are dumb. tomorrow's smart people will be smart. those on our side who criticize us are stupid. despite all of our fuckups, we know best, and history will be flattering to us"it's a brilliant argument (yep, i made up the quote) . let's hope it doesn't fly. appealling to future historians is kinda like appealing to OMGod - there's not much feedback. constructive or otherwise.
