* yesterday i joked that karl rove had engineered the mine collapse to get abramoff off the front-page. after the nonsense about all the miracles and praisebetogod and the lies that the miners were all still alive, i think i'm going to have to reclassify my 'karl rove did it' to 'half-joking'.
regardless, america just embarrasses itself further every day - its a banana republic. it's almost as though reality has been usurped by the constant need of drama in the news, and the local specifics, and local people, are irrelevant.
the good news is that the Beeb showed some footage of one of the mothers or wives saying "first we were told we had a miracle, now i dont know if i even believe in the Lord" - i wonder if that footage gets played on american tv...
and i wonder if we poll the american public in 3 months time about the miners, whether they remember that everyone died. my guess? something like 30% will only remember the 'miracle'
