Rove's plea deal

* josh: "And as long as we're discussing it, does anyone notice that every corruption case we're now talking about -- Abramoff, Cunningham, and pretty much all the rest -- either started or shifted into high gear right about the time that George Bush was elected?" (link)

* "(The Duke's) Attorneys Lee Blalack and Mark Holscher say Cunningham has never wore a body wire during conversations with his former congressional colleagues or any other public official.
They also say he has not surreptitiously gathered evidence against any public officials." (link)

* "The attorney for Randy "Duke" Cunningham issued a statement Monday denying that the disgraced former congressman had worn a concealed microphone to gather evidence against other public officials but declined to specify whether he wore one in conversations with private individuals." (link)
damn. i wonder who they got? Wilkes?

* Chris Bowers is having a contest to guess Alito's freeper screen-name. my guess is lalito

* "• Corruption will be a voting issue in November, they say. Only the war in Iraq, terrorism and health care are cited more often as "extremely important" issues this year; 43% describe "corruption in government" that way. In comparison, 38% call the economy an extremely important issue." (link)
wow - more people are worried about corruption than the economy

* " According to sources, Fitzgerald had planned to meet with the grand jury several times last month, hoping to wrap up the case specifically as it relates to Rove's involvement. But the prosecutor, who empanelled a second grand jury in November and whose term expires in 18 months, had his hands full dealing with another high-profile criminal case he is prosecuting involving Lord Conrad Black, owner of several major metropolitan newspapers, who was indicted on charges including racketeering." (link)

* " But sources knowledgeable about the case against Rove say that he was offered a plea deal in December and that Luskin had twice met with Fitzgerald during that time to discuss Rove's legal status. Rove turned down the plea deal, which would likely have required him to provide Fitzgerald with information against other officials who were involved in Plame's outing as well as testifying against those people, the sources said." Previous polls have shown the corruption issue has not yet resonated with the American public.
