women in iran

from Moa:

i just have to say something about iran - and not about the us nuke plans - but about the women situation in iran.

after the revolution in iran 1979 the 'dress code' became more strict. women were not allowed to (from abt 10 years of age) show their head or body at all. selection of colours; black.

by the end of the 90's the values in iran became more liberal and more and more women would challenge the old idéeas (well, renewed in the late 70's) of what to wear. of course this differs alot geographically but still there were a big change.

so why do i bring this up today? well it's because from tomorrow the police in the capital city of iran will start arresting women that does not cover all of her head and body with black fabric!!!

50 new police vehicles will be sent out in the streets for this misson. still it's allowed for men to use prostitutes though. so obviously there is a big differens between moral issues depending on gender. surprise surprise...

and the us' interference in iran just makes the situation worse. i guess they feel frustrated and attacked and they automatically put up shields, to protect themselves and what they believe in, this is how fundamentalism grows stronger. but do note that this does not make it ok to eliminate womens rights. and iran eliminating womens rights can not really be solved thru bush's plans..."
may the forces of oppression be banished forever, everywhere.
