hastert taking bribes, again

* tpmm:
"A grand jury is expected to return a formal indictment of Rep. William "Dollar Bill" Jefferson (D-LA) in four to six weeks, ABC News reports.
The network also says that the FBI went to extraordinary lengths in preparing legal justifications and safeguards for its unprecedented raid of the congressman's Capitol office. Apparently, one of the issues was a collection of documents and computer files the Justice Department had requested -- but Congress' lawyers would not release"
* wow. the fannie mae story has been brewing for, ummmm, 5 years? $10bn. the wheels of justice turn slowly- this problem has been evident since... i cant even remember when.

* pincus:
"Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales said yesterday that the government can obtain domestic telephone records without court approval under a 1979 Supreme Court ruling that authorized the collection of business records."
* rawstory:
""The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert, is under investigation by the FBI, which is seeking to determine his role in an ongoing public corruption probe into members of Congress," ABC News' Brian Ross reports Wednesday evening. "Federal officials say the information implicating Hastert was developed from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating with the government.""
Hastert taking bribes? no way!

* "According to the Center for Public Responsive, House Speaker Dennis Hastert is the No.1 individual recipient of money from Abramoff and his clients, with a total of $68,300 contributed to his campaign committee and leadership PAC from 1998 to 2004." (link)

Denny Hastert is a former high school wrestling coach. How could anyone believe such an honest man would be on the payroll of Turkish interests AND the Abramoff Clan?

Mr. Laesch, your chances may be looking better and better...

Anyone remember former Speaker of the House, Jim Wright and former Senator Alan Cranston? They were saints compared to these thugs, but I doubt that any of these guys will be punsihed with the same severity for much worse offenses than either Wright or Cranston ever thought of.
