errors are mine - some paraphrasing and truncation
goyette
- let me lead you - you found, I would say, specific information about threats to the United States, had been known - is that fair?
sibel
- correct - it was that, and several other things that I've reported. and again, I'd like to emphasize the importance of the number of cases - not only with me - but with all the other whistleblowers. As you know, I started my organisation about a year and a half ago - it's called National Security Whistleblowers Coalition - and we have 65 veteran agents and analysts from FBI, CIA, DIA, DHS and if you go to our website - nswbc.org - and you look at the bios for these individuals. The average years of experience is about 25 years for these veteran agents and analysts. And they have been poring out of these agencies for these past 3 or 4 years because they are fed up. And they are reporting these cases to Congress - to the Inspector Generals office - for the DoJ IG, or DoD IG, and nothing is happening - nobody is taking action within the Congress. So now they see that the only place left that they can go and report wrongdoing in these cases is the media! Because the public has the right to know, and these patriotic people feel obligated to come forward and report these issues.
goyette
- ok - let me talk about you specifically - in fact let's cut to the chase on part of this because I read the Vanity Fair piece. It sounds as though (I'm gonna try to say it - and you can steer or correct me) but it sounds as though one of the things that you discovered in your work as an interpreter was that there were foreign officials talking about payoffs - that's not fair - let's call it campaign contributions to American politicians - and you listened to wiretaps of foreign government officials talking about campaign contributions to American politicians - including Dennis Hastert. Is that (accurate)?
sibel
- Well, Charles, yes. Not only that - if you read the article - it quotes sources from within the congress giving this information out - because I provided these congressional officials with classified briefings - and also sources within the FBI who also confirmed and put forward this information - and again this information is backed up by other documents and witnesses - and this is just the tip of the iceberg. And when you say campaign contributions, I would like to emphasize the fact that we are talking about illegal - we aren't just talking about checks - we are talking about illegal campaign donations. Some of them may be in the form of cash - delivered inside suitcases. So we are not talking about your regular checks, written to a particular congressman. It goes much further than that
goyette
- I tell you - there's no room left for anybody to poo-poo these kind of allegations. The story in the Washington Post last Saturday about this slush fund - the Family Research Organisation - or whatever the hell it was called (Ed: it was the US Family Network) - the slush fund in which there was a million dollars of Russian oil oligarchy money poured in to be used as a slush fund by the likes of abramoff and DeLay!
sibel
- that's the tip of the iceberg
goyette
- but that's the same thing you're talking about. You're talking about foreign money being poured in to the coffers of American politicians.
sibel
- it is - and they're not that separated because once we hear more about other people involved - elected officials, other officials, you will see the overlap between what I reported to congress four years ago - and what we are seeing today being reported in the papers. So this is just the tip of the iceberg - just buckle up - and wait for more.
goyette
- well, I'd like to wait for more. I'd like to have it all exposed to the disinfectant of public exposure and sunlight - but I'm not sure that's gonna happen. What are your thoughts about that?
sibel
- well - it hasn't happened to date - because as I said, this information was available to the congress, & the DoJ four years ago, three years ago, two years ago - and unfortunately we have lost that mechanism that was supposed to be in place - and that is oversight by congress. and congress fulfilling it's oversight duty, and accountability. These words, these phrases, have been erased by the American politics, and American government system. And that is why I agree with you. Let's see if we are going to see any accountability. Let's see if we are going to see the congress actually stand up - and start doing, not a favour, but what they are supposed to be doing - representing the USA and it's people - and not some - ummmm - interests.
goyette
- ok - can you talk about what you have learned as far as drug smuggling, money laundering, weapons trading - and the complicity of American govt officials?
sibel
- ummm - again, you have to buckle up for that, because more will come out.
goyette
- how do you know its gonna come out, sibel?
sibel
- well - because there's a limit about how much they can stop or prevent information - you just referred to this Vanity Fair article - okay - and that came out 3 years after I came forward. Tomorrow you may be seeing something else - it's not gonna come out from the congress - we know that - it's not gonna come from any decision or independent council from DoJ - but the only way it's going to come out is in bits and pieces - through the media.
goyette
- well - I often quote Napoleon "the truth doesn't have to be buried or destroyed - it just needs to be suppressed long enough that it doesn't matter"
sibel
- correct
goyette
- and that's what we're seeing
sibel
- you're right - I agree with you
goyette
- so it doesn't matter if it comes out then...
sibel
- well - it depends on the American people - how outraged are they going to be - and how they're going to demand action. and we haven't seen it yet - at least to a large extent we are seeing people - like your show - how many shows like this do we have - and why are they called 'alternative media'? Not the main media. That's the question Charles.
goyette
- alright - sibel is on the show - call in with questions (etc)
- snip - nswbc stuff - particularly re Russ Tice, Schaffer, Robert Wright... snip
- what countries are involved with the sorts of things that you are aware of? (paraphrase)
sibel
- (paraphrase) Pakistan, turkey, Azerbaijan ( and other stans) and Saudi Arabia
goyette
- I dunno. you sound confident that its all gonna come out. ya know - in science they're looking for a unified theory that explains everything - and I sorta believe that all of these things are tied in together - I sorta believe that the Wilson/plame/ senate phase 2 investigation / your representations / the NSA stuff - I believe that all of this stuff eventually can fit in one unified theory sibel
sibel
- Charles, you're right. I'm gonna go ahead and specifically refer to the Plame case - and I'm gonna put some public information out there - and you can just see the link right there. (abbrev) Plame met Wilson at the American Turkish Council. The ATC was named in the Vanity Fair article as one of the FBI target organisations that was engaged in illegal activities and illegal campaign donations. This was in 1997 - Joe Wilson has it in his book. Valerie Wilson was there as a Brewster Jennings undercover worker. What was she doing at the ATC? and why did her undercover job take her to the ATC? That's where they met. (snip) Also - Plame took at least five trips to Turkey between 1997 and 2001 - so you are right. All roads lead to Rome. and you will come across this information from other sources, on other cases, because these criminal activities, and people associated with them - they happen to be the same people that we're going to be seeing over and over and over again. Another company to pay attention to is International Advisors Inc. This company was set up in 1997 by Richard Perle and Douglas Feith - in 1997 - and they were registered as agents for Turkey in the US - and they were receiving $1m every year - from the government of Turkey and some of these entities - doing what? If you go out and look - it doesn't even say what they were doing! and people need to look at that.
- (snip - nswbc.org stuff)

Luke, that last line by Sibel in this interview which I just read now this morning... "All roads lead to Rome"... Yesterday eating Turkish food I had my Turkish coffee grounds "read" by the owner of the restaurant, and she saw "Rome" in my future like I'd be going there. Perhaps this is that connection....
I was thinking she was referring to Italy, since earlier when we got there my Armenian coworker said no when she first asked if he was Turkish, but said yes to her second guess of being Italian because he didn't want to acknowledge his Armenian heritage there at the restaurant. I thought the Rome reference might have been to point to his claiming to be Italian, but maybe if one believes in such predictions, I will be helping "the roads that lead to Rome" that we're all trying to do here! :) She also said that I'd likely be moving, which I've been considering around here too.
calipendence - let's hope that Rome can provide the answers...
I love the part where Goyette asks Sibel " How do you KNOW the truth is going to come out?"
I feel Goyette's frustration. I want these scandals to break and soon. And I want these crooks to be rounded up before they can do any more damage.
Great transcription, by the way.
lol - i can transcribe like the best of them! listen/type/publish (colbert would be proud of me)
actually, there's a horton interview that i dont think has been transcibed - hope to do that in the next couple of days. it's a shit of a job - but theres some software that makes it easier
"I love the part where Goyette asks Sibel " How do you KNOW the truth is going to come out?""
actually, one of the weird lessons in transcribing something is that you learn that the written word is actually quite disconnected from the spoken word. it's quite unnerving, somehow. you actually note it inadvertently by capitalizing 'KNOW' -
we often hear that, say, the chinese language is difficult to learn because of the intonations and inflections and whatnot - but the english language has the exact same issues.
incidentally, the full goyette quote is "how do you know its gonna come out, sibel?" - and that 'sibel' bit at the end really changes the sentence when you hear it. he did the 'sibel' thing a couple of times - and it really changes the dynamic of the sentence - it becomes almost imploring or some such. (similarly, remember to drop your wife's name into the conversation when you are talking to her (generally, i mean, not when you are grumpy with her )
