MORAL EQUIVALENCE!

* AP:
"Democrat Ted Strickland leads Republican Ken Blackwell by 20 percentage points in the race to be Ohio's next governor, a newspaper poll published Sunday shows."
(and sherrod brown looks like he'll trounce DeWine. do you think Kerry won Ohio?)

* some guy in israel died of a heart-attack. MORAL EQUIVALENCE!

* anonymous comment of the day from this post:
"Israel is buying the vast majority of its weapons from the US and Europe. It is highly unlikely that they contain phosphorus of any kind.

It is much more likely that the child was burned from an explosion of Hizbullah weapon cache which was hit by Israel. Irannian weapons are not known to obey International standards"
("Anonymous" responds: "Ugh, this Anonymous is a disgrace to our good name." - lol)

* AP:
"The CIA also revealed it has not yet completed a formal assessment of the damage to national security that may have been caused by Plame's outing in 2003."
the wingnuts will be delerious (and will ignore 'formal')

* AP:
"A powerful Republican committee chairman who has led the fight against President Bush's signing statements said Monday he would have a bill ready by the end of the week allowing Congress to sue him in federal court.

"We will submit legislation to the United States Senate which will...authorize the Congress to undertake judicial review of those signing statements with the view to having the president's acts declared unconstitutional," Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said on the Senate floor."
lol.

About equivalence: in local paper, christian nurse (and former peacekeeper in Lebanon) writes that war is equally hard for Israeli civilians, as (for example) they have to send their childern on south Israel for summercamp and it's not pleasant to spend a nice summer day in shelter. Oh well, she's been there so she must know.

Also, I have to partly agree with Gilliard on your yesterday post. I've seen none of the usual footage of rioting raghead mobs but instead calm and articulate "western" arabs in western clothes. But I doubt it has large effect here - and even if it had, it doesn't change the situation there. But maybe THIS has - Israel just bombed 4 peacekeepers to death, including a Finn. (just in while writing)

(There's also this rather disturbing twist for me: my cousin is tv reporter, currently in Beirut. Just saw him on evening news interviewing Hezbollah MP. Soooo, I hope IDF does better job at avoiding shooting journalists than US did in Iraq.)

And to cram in one more thing - if you stumble on any story that has better sources on "two soldiers were captured on Lebanon side" than Hezbollah claims, please share. Later, tank was blown up on Lebanese side, but they were already on the chase...

thnx teemu. camp can be really tough.

the consensus seems to be growing that israel has really lost the media wars, despite the media's best efforts.

best wishes for your cousin. (the bad news is that a few journos have already been killed.)

romunov has the details of the arrest of the 2 soldiers - with links. i'm actually not entirely confident about it.
