Nicolo Pollari questioned by prosecutors

* reuters:
"The head of Italy's military intelligence agency was questioned by prosecutors for the first time on Saturday on suspicion of helping the CIA kidnap a terrorism suspect in Milan, judicial sources said.

The development makes Nicolo Pollari the highest ranking official connected to the Italian investigation -- which has already led to the arrests of his No. 2 and another leader of his Sismi intelligence agency earlier this month."
* reuters:
"The Vatican on Friday strongly deplored Israel's strikes on Lebanon, saying they were "an attack" on a sovereign and free nation."
(thnx don)

* larryjohnson:
"How did Israel respond? They bombed civilian targets and civilian infrastructure and have killed many civilians. Let's see if I have this right. The Arab "terrorists" attack military units, destroy at least one tank, and are therefore terrorists. Israel retaliates by launching aerial, naval, and artillery bombardments of civilian areas and they are engaging in self-defense. If we are unable to recognize the hypocrisy of this construct then we ourselves are so enveloped by propaganda and emotion that, like the Israelis, Hezbollah, and Hamas, we can't think rationally. We can only think in terms of tribalism and revenge."
* remember how cheney said that he had no idea who joe wilson is? don makes a good point:
"With Wilson in Iraq ahead of Gulf '91, and Cheney as SecDef at the time, I'm finding it very difficult to believe they hadn't crossed paths prior to the Bush43 presidency."
* and pdaly makes a good point over at EW's:
"Of course we know now the Administration had started its 'work up' of Wilson before July 6, 2003. Why didn't they inform a democratic public of their yellowcake-in-the-Speech mistake sooner? Why didn't they preempt Wilson with the news/apology? Could one assume the White House was waiting for Wilson to go public? especially since after immediately agreeing with Wilson, they then attacked him (and her)."
